I have the Canon 15mm 2.8 fisheye. Great lens if you can find one.

Joseph just posted this example of the Canon 8-15mm f4 today.

I have the older Sigma 8mm f4. It's not the sharpest lens, it really vignettes, but it's a nice effect sometimes. I don't know how much they've improved the new one.

Sigma 8mm fish eye is great. Nice and sharp. I've been using it with the 5D for some time. Coverage is pretty good with Scarlet/Epic too.

Which fish-eye will get me full 180 degrees on the Epic/Scarlet? I want to use it for image based lighting / environment mapping in CGI.

I would shoot 5k with the Sigma and shoot 5 plates. (120* increments and straight up/down.) Every fish-eye has CA and softness issues on the edges.

EDIT: In fact if you are shooting reflection plates and not just lighting plates I would shoot in like the 14-16mm range of a Tokina or similar. You'll be wanting to end up with ~20k plates for reflections not just the 8k or so that a fisheye will give you.

IMO you should consider the nikkor af-s 10.5 f2.8 fisheye ! With an adapter ring for your canon mount. you won't be disappointed ! :D

@ Gavin: I want motion…

If you want 24p 4k then you need to go with the Sumex 5.6mm (fixed f/5.6) or a Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8.

Just be aware that autofocus might not work with Scarlet on the Sumex and I don't know if it has a manual focus system.

And neither will deliver enough resolution for reflection maps @ 4k for high-gloss objects (such as a car) unless it's rendered really small in frame. In which case I would probably go with the 8mm @ 5k and just shoot at 12fps and blend. Lighting doesn't change fast enough and the 8mm is optically superior.

I have that lens and I tried on the Canon but I can not control the aperture so it stays fixed to the smallest so it's very dark.. This lens does not have a way to change the aperture so how you use it?

I like better the Canon 8-15mm

You need an adapter ring that allows aperture changes: http://www.16-9.net/nikon_g/

For sure, manual controls of aperture and loose AF, but this lens's a killer for that price.

Hi Gavin, thanks for the detailed answer. Yes, I think 12 fps with blending or flow motion should be fine.

@ Nick: So you think 8mm @ 5K would cover 180 degrees?

Or do I need a Sigma 4.5 or the like?

I LOVE the Canon 8-15mm f4/L . Amazing lens , super sharp and lets you shoot fairly wide at 2K! The f.4 is a bummer but it IS the worlds FIRST fisheye Zoom.
(Scarlet tests for me Sstarts to distort at 3K on the edges, distorts at 4K, crops at 5K)

My Second choice would probably be the Canon 15mm 2.8 Fisheye, but it is a one trick pony, if you are shooting extreme sports , then go for it.

Not sure Uli. Buts its cheap enuogh that you wont regret it even if it doesn't!
