Hi,

I'm a film student and I'm just finishing off my first RED short.

I edited the film using those quicktime preview clips, but now I'm not sure what my next steps should be. I was thinking something like this:

1. color correct the shots in REDCINE
2. using REDCINE, export to HD 1080.
3. import HD into FCP and recreate my previous edit
4. in FCP/color maybe add some finishing touches
5. export from FCP to dvd/.mov/blu-ray

Would this be an ok workflow? What would you recommend I do?

Also, regarding the color correction - should I do this in REDCINE while working with the r3d files, or can I do it in FCP/color?

Thanks a lot everybody. And a belated happy new year.

I'd rather use RA/RR or Clipfinder, since you are on a Mac anyway and your final product is Blu-Ray.

Just do a first-light in RA to avoid losses after going to ProRes, which is 10 bit. Normally this can be done on a per location/lighting-situation basis, you won't need to correct every single clip here.

Depending on your shooting ratio and the computing power at hand, you can:

- Either convert everything to ProRes in full quality with RR or Clipfinder (half-high will be fine for anything but very critical low-light scenes)

- Or ingest with first-light corrections applied into FCP as ProRes (watch out, no curves applied here!)

- Or do a quick convert in RR or Clipfinder to something lighter and replace the shots in use after the rough cut with full quality with the help of Clipfinder

Now you can stay in FCP and Color and do you creative work and final CC.
