  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First test - Scarlet with Helios 44-2 glasses.

I have the Hellios 77K-4 f1.8 50mm lens, which I think is just a newer and slightly wider version of what you have. I absolutely love this lens and use it all the time. Works great as a interview lens.

I like the look ... but could you please upload the HD version of this video ... so we can judge the sharpness of this lens :)

My first Scarlet test with Helios 44-2
Would love to hear your thoughts! Many thanks

Nice looking footage!! I have this lens as well ( got it on Ebay for 50$) .... but I have yet to throw it on my Scarlet. Looking forward to trying it out!

I just bought a set of Helios lenses (28 mm, 35 mm, 58 mm, 135 mm) and shot with them over the last few days. Here's a teaser trailer I just cut together to introduce our new model Tillie, which was shot on Scarlet with these lenses.

I'm really enjoying shooting with the Helios lenses. They have a lovely flare and soft but still detailed character especially shooting into the light. And it is a pleasure to use all-manual lenses with decent focus throw instead of the Canon EOS glass we've been using up to now!

Cheers, Hywel.

Helios lenses can be very, very interesting It's good the give the West a rest, and see sometimes what the "other guys" were doing on the other side of the curtain. The hegemony of Canon, Nikon, etc can get pretty boring...

Helios lenses are generally Russian copies or updates of Zeiss Jena lenses and designs. Though the lenses are quite modern (often made in the 80's and 90's), the designs can be quite old. The Helios 44 design dates back to before WW2. Hence all the insane (and magical) bokeh. They didn't know how to fix that kind of distortion back then.

Vlad, what's the Helios 28mm?

Cool .... thank you Vladislav for the R3d files ... I'm going to buy one, and try it on my Scarlet :)
