These have a very Leica M feel to them.... I wonder? Very pretty Laguun.

Leica-M feeling on RED1, an example of Leica Summicron-M 90mm f/2 shot on RED1.

Could be also that Leica is involved in making of those "new German Arri PL

lenses" just because you never know what is going on there???!!!

yeah, the iris/blade mechanics are really nice.

Hi Jan,

You said the lens was wide open, so I don't think were seeing the blades.

Best,

Stephen

Stephen,

exactly.

Good point because we don't see blades at wide open.

See the examples below shot on RED1 with

Canon 50mm FD f/1.2 wide open @ f/1.2 were you don't see the blades because all are a pure round circles.

In the alphabet, what letter comes between k and m?

Sorry for ruining the third pic.

I think Evin Hit it with the Leica Observation, and comparing the look to Sanjin stuff I would say thats it. unless its Schneider, which is entirely possible.

I like the thought but... Does it make sense that Leica would be the company to release the INEXPENSIVE cine primes?

When their SLR lenses are about twice the price of Zeiss etc.

Maybe since they arlready have a foothold in that market and want to break into a new segment?...

P&S Technik

Interesting idea, Rodenstock is making the glass for their 16mm digital primes (for the Si2K). It's conceivable that they have S35mm versions coming.

I still hope it's Leica though. They're by far my favorite lens manufacturer.

Hmmm,not sure about Leica.
I've used Leica R & M lenses for about 30 years, and I use rehoused Leica primes on my Red,although I agree the shots do have that feel about them.
The thing is that Leitz is a very small operation, who have difficulty in meeting the demand for still lenses, let alone being able to supply in the quantities mentioned here.
However I suppose it's possible they are Leitz designs.
Sanjin posted a while ago that Leitz had recently closed their Cine lens division, which makes me wonder how far they got with the designs.
Total speculation though.
Whatever they are, the shots we've seen so far are pretty dam impressive.
Tom.

P&S Technik

Good point Mark.

I would say it could be a sort of cooperation between several German companies to make it something like that.

Let's play with combinations now.

I'll start:

- Schott would provide glass

- Leica or Schneider-Kreuznach would make optical design

- ISCO would do grinding, polishing and treating with special anti-reflective coatings

- P+S Technik would make lens shells, mechanics and calibrate focus marks

Big volumes in production could possibly drove low prices and big earnings!?

They try to learn from RED... or jump in RED marketplace like an asteroid...

or I could be also totally wrong...
