  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First night shoot with my scarlet.

People got spoiled with the low light capability's of the HDSLR generation, however like many stated the scarlet is a cinema camera, not a run and gun camera like most HDSLR's are.
Yes the HDSLR's can get better low light capability's but they also produce these tv like images and doesn't give you the cinema feeling.
So every camera has it's pro's and con's, stop bitching about it and accept it.
If you can find ways around those flaws of every camera you can make great images!

If you think you can get better low light footage with a dslr than an MX equipped red, well, you'd be wrong ;-)

Not by a long shot in my experience. Talk about unusably noisy. You have to pull your blacks down in CC to get rid of any noise with Red footage. Applying a basic curve to bring your blacks in line and boom - noise gone. With an MX chip and super speeds, you can shoot in any situation you can come across. This whole the scarlet isn't good in low light argument is beyond stupid. People who expect to be able to shoot in the dark with no lights and have an image are delusional. You need some light to make an exposure. duh.

Everybody's saying that they don't need lowlight capabilities. because that's more professional. but once RED comes out with the Dragon sensor, they will be all over saying that it beats everything in lowlight and redefines "professional" and that nothing even comes close. And when Canon, Arri, Sony or whoever comes out with a lightfield sensor it will be the whole game again, until RED can do them one better. etc.. do you see what i mean? Ping Pong. Just accept it, no one will blame RED for not being the best at low-light with the current MX Sensor. It is greater at other things, everybody accepts that.

I want clarify, i don't want say that FS100 are better, pls understand me correctly, for my next work a better low light camera is needed, i must work in a non controlled light situations, so wich is the best one??? C300, fs100, Scarlet or.....???
To me is not important the name of the camera at all, Hollywood or Japan style.
what bring to me if Scarlet under controlled light is the best if i must work in some precarius light conditions?
My english is very bad i know very sorry for that.

Kamal Kyrala, Yes can be a problem for children!!!

Marc Ruiz, i don't want compare Apple with orange, i want know wich hardware i need for my work and because in this forum we can find many professional guys, think can help me out to resolve part of my decision.

I just ordered at 3th November the Scarlet kit and some other accessories, if is not the correct one i will use for something else.
