  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First feature shot in 4.5K?

Thanks! And thanks for that tip. When we shoot today I will check those setting because it sounds like exactly what you described. :)
Should have some more pics tonight.

Nice screens Spike! Looks great.

You've inspired me into updating our camera into B21. I've also laid an order for a set of ZF-primes from www.ducloslenses.com (wich I would have done anyway but it was very comforting to see that they cover the larger sensor area in 4,5K)
We're shooting a documentary and will be in production for about a year. My question for you is if you have any thoughts about how to colorgrade your project? I've been doing some tests with color and there doesn't seem to be any support for 4,5K there yet. (I hope there will be in a year when it's time for us to do the online. =o) But again, what's your approach to the grading-process?

Good luck with the feature!

Shot in Patterson Projects in the Bronx and Harlem for some interiors.

Erik, regarding the grading I myself wasn't aware that Color wouldn't be compatible with 4.5k. My guess is we'll have to hold out for Color compatibility for the future as well, and in the meantime, we'll deal just fine with one-light in RA. I think Spike's been using RA anyway to touch up the screen grabs.

More pics added above. Some look green when they should be teal on the PC. On a mac they look ok.

looks like gamma problem 1.8 /2.2

BTW:
nice work !!! ... looks great!

Thanks for upload snapshot,it may have much fun and excite than any other.

Thanks guys. I thought I figured out that whole gamma thing too. I guess not.
I figure we can color in aftereffects if we had to in the end. Maybe by that time REDalert or REDcine will have a 3way color wheel.

Wow, looks great, love the interior shots! I dig the desaturated green tint thing you got going on. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. We get back into shooting Nov 1st finally. Been working on a teaser but its proving to be difficult because of all the stories within the movie. Didn't want to do it with voice over but I think the only way to describe the overall movie is to do it that way.

super work!

The zeiss zf's look great, plus they will cover an epic FF35.

My boy James is screening his short "Poetry Man" starring Peter Greene and invited us to screen our teaser for "10 Crack Commandments" on Sunday Oct. 25th at 7pm over at SVA's new theater on 23rd street between 8th and 9th ave. You can't miss it. Its the only theater on the block. Food and drink afterwords.

Thanks for all the people that came out. We almost filled a 500 seat theater and the responses were amazing. I felt like I was going to throw up at first but the applause at the end gave me the biggest high. All the comments we got from people we knew and didn't know made it feel like we are on the right track with this and we can't wait to finish shooting so we can release a solid trailer. The people who doubted that we were making a great looking film changed their minds and let us know tonight. I even got to experience someone talking about me to me not realizing that I was he. Heh, that was a weird moment. My friends thought that was funny as hell.
The Canon 5D footage held up very nicely on the big screen too. It was a legit sized theater so I was worried the 5D would fall apart up there but dang it was sweet. We are getting the 7D tomorrow and see whats up with that. The RED stuff...not much to say but DAYUMMMMM!!!

This looks really awesome from the stills. The grading is just fantastic also.
I'm currently using the 5D until Scarlet/Epic.
Would u mind sharing more details about how that footage turned out?
(Even though we are at REDUSER)
thanks

Thanks. Nothing really special to share. We are using Zeiss ZF glass on both cameras and for now I'm just dropping the 5D stuff right into the timeline with the RED proxies on my Macbook Pro. I had to synch the Zoom files to the 5D first but that was fast. All the footage would have looked even better but I didn't know the workflow for HDcam and gave a 720 version to Technicolor which they had to blow back up again to 1080 since the short that was screening also was shot in 720. The next time I will keep everything at 1080. Even with that it looked great though, I was really surprised.

We resume shooting again this Sunday or Monday depending on the weather and the NYC Marathon.
