  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Epic Grade Airing Tonight (5/7)

Looks great but you should save time with the ProRes transcode and edit natively with Epic in PPro 5.5...

Cheers

Dave

NBC does the edit internally and FCP is their platform of choice. And really, while I can appreciate the PPro native workflow there are numerous benefits to editing with transcoded files and almost all professional shoots use an offline/online workflow. In the professional world, it's rarely as simple as 'you should do x.' There are infrastructures in place, editors that have preferences, decision makers that are human, bias, and often misinformed. The dailies are made on set and cause precisely zero delay in the editorial process. In fact, I am certain that editing natively in PPro would slow things down compared to the current workflow.

I actually meant to say "you could save time", the should was a typo. Wouldn't try and tell you how to work. But we would be happy for you to test drive Pro 5.5 with native epic... Let me know...

Looks great. Quick question:
You did the ProRes transcodes in FCP? I am testing out some Epic footage and was unable to get FCP to read Epic files. Looks like my system is missing the Epic codec. I do not have a Red Rocket. Are you able to get FCP to understand the Epic clips via the Red Rocket card, or do you have a codec that I am missing?

..., editing done with ProRes transcodes in FCP into the wee hours of the morning on Friday, ...

I'm guessing the transcodes happened in REDCine-x not in FCP. But do you use a Rocket or what does that part of the workflow look like?

I'm looking fwd to see this when I'm not sitting on set over the weekend :O

I am on board with Premiere CS5.5 and Epic. I have to turn around an edited video same day for a major newspaper's online content, and I have no time for ProRes.

How to watch outside the USA

How to watch outside the USA

Great spoof spot, and great to see Epic footage delivered. I think that the better you start out, even for a web result, the better your end result.

Of course my favourite SNL spot lately still has to be Gublin and Green, Attorneys at Law specialising in injuries sustained while watching or performing in Spiderman: Turn off the Dark!

For those of us outside the USA, you can see the best internet version of this on NBC's site.
Get a plugin for Firefox which modifies the headers, and lets you choose your geographic region of choice. Not sophisticated enough for Hulu etc. but works for SNL which is not shown on any outlet here in the UK. Also good for The Daily Show which if C4 in the UK hadn't dropped, I'd still be watching on UK TV with UK ads.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967
Install and restart Firefox
Then under Tools, run Modify Headers and enter
First text box: X-Forwarded-For
Second text box: 12.13.14.15
Third text box leave blank.

Of course do this only when you want to view a USA site.
