  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware upgrade 4.0 - What do you think or wish might be in it for Scarlet

4.5K @24fps would still be nice, and indeed better then 4K.
In theory, that should be possible since the Scarlet can process up to 50MB/sec. In comparison, the RED One could only do 36MB/sec and was doing 4,5K (2.4:1).

The internal limit of RED ONE is 36MB/sec. Just so you know.

Jim

Using the RED recording calculator, it should also be possible to get on the Scarlet, 5K ANA mode at 6:1 25 fps , and 5K WS at 7:1, 24 fps. Technically, it seems possible, and would be great!

You guys are talking about combined datarate per second, when the lowest common denominator is actually per frame.

4.5k (4480x1920) is actually less pixels PER FRAME than 4k (4096x2160), so I don't know what's holding it back... That said R1's 4k frame size is 4096x2306 (or something), but it's only 12bit and it's max compression is 7.5:1, so there is clearly some mojo going on. Honestly, I'd just like some official comment as to why it's not (and/or will not be) enabled... That goes for all WS and ANA modes on SX.

would be awesome if 89-120fps, were of more usable quality, even 2k would make my Christmas. Please Santa.

never gonna happen, jarred said they are never going to do that

I was at some point thinking 5k 24p would be really useful for scarlet, and I would but what would make the camera substantially more liberating for motion shooting would be 48fps at 4k. So that we could keep all of our material at 4k. Probably wont happen, but it would make the scarlet a larger contender against the new Sony cam while keeping it out of the epics territory and allowing us a full 4k delivery albeit maybe not resolving a full 4k. But if 4k was good enough for social network and girl with the dragon tattoo then I'm go an say its good enough for most of us.

Those were both shot in 4.5k, not 4k. Just saying....

I would love to have 4.5k on the scarlet, that's the biggest thing I miss about shooting on the REDone.

4.5K 24, 4K 48, 5K 24 and some burst modes to have higher framerates. Epic goes 6K. Scarlet won't go Dragon. Upgrade path for scarlet user to Epic. basta:) go for it! Its xmas time RED-necks :P

The only reason I'm not a Scarlet owner is because it lacks 120 fps @ 2k. Add that & I'll buy one immediately!

IMO, that's a terrible reason to forego all the other strengths of the Scarlet. Does your work really depend so much on high frame rates?

I stand corrected... I loved the 4.5k format on R1. I shot everything at 4.5k back then, but still would prefer 4k up to 48fps

-- better power management, for stby with battery attached and for longer life especially redvolts
-- a burst mode for more fps would be amazing....120fps at 2k with 10:1 compression for 10 sec...... would be killer for any fs700 user.......i think there is the hardware to do this, it's just about time/money to have that
-- stills mode as proper stills, different folder in the ssd
