So I've been having some wonky issues with my touchscreen not responding promptly... consequently I inadvertently locked out the touchscreen while attempting to access the menu Icon :P

So my next thought was that if I upgrade the firmware (currently v1.7.10) to v3.0.0 that some of these issues will hopefully disappear...

Unfortunately, in the firmware upgrade instructions, it firmly states:

"IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE BATTERIES TO POWER CAMERA DURING THIS PROCEDURE."

I can't quite get my head around that one... Unless of course you happen to be using a low battery and it dies before the upgrade can complete itself and corrupts the OS...

Unfortunately, I don't have a wall power for it at the moment, but I am still curious as to why this is...

TYIA!!!

EDIT: No RedMote or Sidehandle

Why would you not have AC power? The camera ships with an ac power adaptor. :-(

And, yes, the danger is the camera hasn't finished upgrading when the power dies.

not only the power dying but a power fluctuation with the battery can cause the upgrade to fail.

Give it a go, it should be fine if it's a full battery. I've done it several times with the Red One...

I locked my touch screen playing with it the first evening I had it. I tried for a very long time to re-access the menus and finally blundered onto a method that worked for me. It may not work for others, but when I use just the tip of my finger at 90° to the screen, the screen responds consistently and quickly. Using the "pad" of my finger works inconsistently or not at all. (Your fingernails have to be short to use just the tip of your finger.)

Thanks for all the replies everyone! & yeah I clipped my fingernail to the bone & still no luck :P Not just sure yet if Ill give it a go, but it also raises another question as to how long does the upgrade generally take, a minute or 2?

Thanks Again!!

PS: What if we're stuck out in the field without regulated power? :S

Well, while I would recommend that people heed Red's advice... I have "somehow" managed to upgrade the firmware successfully in the last 30min ;)

And from first appearances, the touch LCD seems to be perfectly responsive now....

Thanks Everyone!!!!

It takes less than a minute. Firmware upgrades are fast. It's the black shade calibration (which you need to do after the upgrade) that takes a long time.

Hmm. You guys are aware of the lock and unlocking method of the LCD controls, right? Hold down for a second in the top right corner. Hold down again in the same place to unlock.

Maybe I misunderstood you guys and y'all meant something else entirely.

Joseph, I think the issue is with the touchscreen not being responsive to certain people's fingers (I've had this problem on occasion) and the possibility that a firmware upgrade might improve responsiveness. If you're not getting a good touch response, it's near impossible to unlock the icon in the corner of the screen.
