  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware Release Build 4.0.10

I'm a happy 4.10 user and its really is a great jump up from 3.? that mine came with..

Trent, do you happen to know if any of the firmware has ever let an Atomos Ninja1 work at 1080p? Mine works fine at 720p but doesn't recognise the Scarlet's 1080p output through a clean HDMI...

I had the same happening with my Samurai, I changed the refresh rate or something. Can't remember, but I made it work in 1080 with my epic, so I guess you should be able too

Does anyone else have persistent horizontal banding issues on the LCD after switching out of 1:1 mode? It looks like the whole image isn't refreshing uniformly on the LCD, but the R3Ds turn out fine. It goes away after restarting, but appears again consistently after using 1:1 mode. I've tried reinstalling the firmware and blackshading a couple times, but no luck.

Edit: I noticed this in 4.0.8 (I think), too, but it went away with 4.0.9 and now is back with the latest build.

This is on the Epic.

I have an AC out on a job with one of my Epics reporting a "glitchy" band on the bottom 10-20 pixels on the SDI outs on the Pro-IO module. I have him trying a couple of things (rebooting, turning off overlays, etc.) When the job comes back I will see if I can reproduce or eliminate the issue, maybe reinstall the firmware etc. If it persists I will make a log file and send it in.
I will report back so I'm not leaving the issue open... and I'm only posting here on the off chance anyone else can take a look and reproduce it on another camera.
Cheers,
Harry

I had to revert back to 3.3.15; 4.0.10 would give a blank, GUI-only screen if I used 1:1 focus zoom a dozen times.

Sent in logs to RED and they found the problem, which will be dealt with in the next release (but damn do I hate waiting after being teased with some of 4.0.xx's new features.)

Thanks Trent, I'll try that tomorrow. Does the maximum number include the EVF and touchscreen LCD?

Yes and no. LCDs and EVFs do count towards the total number of overlay/menu screens but you can configure the Brain LCD and Brain EVF separately now (so you can have different settings applied based on which type of display is plugged in). If you have both the Brain LCD and Brain EVF in an overlay/menu mode it only counts as one since they are mutually exclusive (that is, you can't have both plugged in at the same time).

Now the camera is shutting down spontaneously. Looks like a support ticket/ log file/ etc.
Oy.
I just want a reliable camera, Red.

That did the trick. Turned off menu's to a couple unused outputs and I'm back in business with the Pro I/O.

Still seeing a weird bug where there is no gain on the line in, the line out (5 pin) is screaming hot output but only the CamMix volume adjusts the line out volume (manual says it should be the RearMix).

Been trying this new build in my Epic-X. It's a great improvement in the visual aspect of the menus and a lot of new and useful functions. It's almost like getting a new camera (again)!

So far I've only encountered a couple of problems:

1- When using the Power Save mode: I have not notice any saving in terms of power and the touchscreen stopped responding when I waked the camera up again. I had the "Low Power Preview" and the "Sleep" modes on. A restart solved the problem.

2- In page 186 of the manual, it says the "Limiter" from the "Audio Channel" menu is active. With the CAM ANALOG selected it displays "Unsupported". Is the limiter only available for the rear module or is it my camera? The manual doesn't specify.

I still haven't put it on it's paces. This is something I'm going to do this week. But it seems a damn good build, so far!

Thanks once again, RED!

Encountering the following problem with the release build on Epic X.

Changing frame sizes results in the dreaded split screen effect on the LCD.

I've also find out another problem with this build:

-My Quad Battery Module acts weird. With this I mean that sometimes its LEDs work as expected and sometimes they don't work at all. The same with the display in the power menu, sometimes it shows the batteries right and sometimes doesn't even show them. Also, when docking the REDMOTE at the back of the Module it doesn't dock...

Really weird. This, plus a couple of "random" errors I've encountered (and some other stuff I've read in this forum) makes me think this build is quite flawed. It's a shame, 'cause it has great stuff on it, but sometimes you just can work with it. Think I'm going back to 3.15!

By the way, anyone else has got some of these problems?

I don't have any problems with my dual module, i don't remember having problems with my quad, but i don't use it that often. When i hear your problems i would check the connections, maybe clean the contacts and look out for bended pins on your module and module adapter, because, really it doesn't sound like a software-bug to me.

For me 4.0.10 runs nicely, i have not encountered a problem that made me think of downgrading.

Hi, Maik!

It is really weird, i'm gonna talk to RED about it. I've been looking at the pins and I don't know how they could bend. How do a bended pin in the module look like? I couldn't see anything strange, but they are so tiny that maybe it's that I am not looking for the right thing. How can I know if a pin in bended? I'd rather prefer not to send it to RED. Any help, please?

Just a follow up on my posts in this thread. I could not reproduce the display issue the AC was having, and the power issue seemed to be marginal batteries that could not power the brain, IO, LCD, Bartech, and TV Logic. Back at the shop all is good with good batteries. Seems like nothing to do with firmware.
Cheers,
Harry
