  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware features to diverge for older Scarlet/Epics ( not FPS )

OK, So I placed the upgrade order for Scarlet D, but I have a bit of a concern:
I believe that the Dragon update for Epic involves a faster firmware processor. ( that processor is not the primary bottleneck limiting FPS speeds )
This will likely lead to some exciting new firmware possibilities such as advanced focus ,etc.
So the old 'MX' Scarlet/Epic might be missing some future firmware feature developments. ( TRUE or FALSE )

Can someone from Red tell us more about this? Matt ?

Specifically : Does the Scarlet D get the same firmware processor power as the Epic D , allowing the same future firmware features for the life of the camera ?

I am not asking about FPS abilities here. Just firmware features.

Thanks!

From what I was told and understand it's similar to how it's been now with Epic and Scarlet, which to me means yes.

I really hope so Phil. I forgot to ask while I was at NAB and talking to the firmware engineer.
I hope RED can chime in and confirm.

This will impact the decision for many - THX Les for bringing it up!

Nice meeting you a the booth Les.

Feature-wise we will keep our same philosophy for the camera's. We'll mirror what we've done for EPIC-X and Scarlet-X.

Hi Matt !

So to summarize, I don't have to stress over some cool focus methods like we talked about at NAB showing up on Epic-D and not my Scarlet-D ? ;)

Cheers!
