  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Firmware 3.0.6 noise improvements?

We have quite a few new formats coming in the next release...

Matthew - is hdmi 1080p24 one of them?

BTW - glad to hear that 4K HD scaling is "just around the corner"! - RED cameras just keep getting better and better!

Download the latest beta firmware from red.com/support Click on downloads, then "beta."

Throw the update file onto the root of a reformatted SSD. Stick the SSD in your cam, and you will be prompted to update the firmware. Easy pie.

You will also have to update your redmote.

Just to add to what Chris said. Make sure your side handle is not attached during the Firmware update if you have one!

This is good to hear. I've been overly compensating on the histogram for a while (bracketing it down). I'm hoping it's much more accurate now.

in 3.0.6 we've optimized the histogram and raw clip meters to more closely reflect the raw exposure viewing tools

in the release notes: Fixed raw exposure meters to match raw exposure view

All of the tools should now give you a more consistent representation of what is going on in the camera.

I was curious as to why? (I know the instructions 'say so'. But what's the logic? What's the sidehandle doing that could mess up the firmware update? It seems an annoyance (albeit tiny and mild) to have to remove the side handle.. and I'm wondering if this is like that airplane 'no cellphones' rule)

You can remove the side handle in less time than it took to write that post. ;-)

The Scarlet manual says to remove the side handle, the instructions in the 3.0.6 read me do not mention removing the side handle.

Installation Instructions for Build 3 v3.0.6 camera firmware:

1. Uncompress the v3.0.6 firmware zip file.

NOTE: RED Watchdog (MAC Only) mounts the MAG read-only by default. Change preference to mount Read-Write before attempting to copy firmware to the MAG.

2. Using RED STATION REDMAG 1.8", copy the "upgrade" folder and it's contents to the top level of the REDMAG¨ 1.8" SSD directory.
3. Eject or unmount the SSD, then remove the SSD from RED STATION.
4. Power up camera and wait for camera to complete startup
5. Insert the SSD and select SETTINGS >> MAINTENANCE >> SW UPDATE and confirm with OK

IMPORTANT: THE CAMERA MUST NOT BE SHUTDOWN OR LOSE POWER AT THIS POINT OR THE CAMERA WILL NOT COME BACK UP.

6. Confirm camera shutdown when upgrade has completed with OK.
7. Power up the camera.
8. Go to the SETTINGS >> MAINTENANCE >> SYSTEM INFO and verify that the camera monitor output is - Version 3.0.6 and PIN (value specific to camera)
9. Installation is now complete. Note: After the firmware upgrade, it is mandatory that you re-format the REDMAG SSDs before use.

I didn't know if this was because one of the fixes was: * Fixed frame rate indicator in Side Handle display

I thought it might be necessary to leave the side handle on for this fix to occur; I left it on with no problems.

The peripherals will automatically be updated (if required) when the camera boots and detects their firmware is out of date (the only exception being the REDmote as it would take way too long). There is no need to have the peripherals attached when performing a camera upgrade.

Hey Trent - can one turn this around to interpret "there is no need to REMOVE peripherals when performing a camera upgrade"??
thinking Side Handle specifically. Have never pulled mine on an upgrade, nore had a prob - but if I am tempting fate.....
