Hey everyone,

I've run into an issue with my RED Drive offloads and backups recently and wondered if anyone else has had any of the same problems with their copying.

Currently, I have a Macbook Pro with a Belkin 2-port Firewire 800 express card connected with one port fed by two daisy chained backup HDs and the RED Drive on the second port.

On more than one occasion my laptop has frozen almost immediately after starting an offload from the RED Drive to one of the external HDs (or both simultaneously), other times it'll freeze a few minutes into the transfer. I ran into the same issue when using both Finder to copy the media and with R3D Data Manager.

I think the problem is my Belkin FW800 card b/c when I switched over to using the built in F400 port on my MBP, the problem was nowhere to be found.

Has anyone been using a similar setup and run into the same problem?

This is the express card I've been using:

I'm using the Tempo SATA Express card/34 from www.sonnetech.com on my MacBook Pro, driving a small external housing from Fantec with hot swappable SATA drives switched to RAID1 and have no problems at all. FireWire starts looking a tad outdated…

With a FireWire reader from Hama, Germany.

OK, OK, I didn't want to put it down ;-)

It just helps to have independent busses.
