Hello,
I am wondering if I could get recommendations for Agents to get film work? I am looking to DP, but will probably have to work in the lower ranks on larger films first due to my experience level. I am finishing up my Cinematography Residency in October at The Workshops, and will need work after that. ( non-union as of now ). I'd prefer narrative work over commercial... docs are ok too.

I'll be updating my reel around that time too. =)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Review the Blue Book. Agents for below the line people can be found there. As I recall, it cost about $50. Try Scriptwriters store or some similar name in Westwood on Westwood Blvd, CA (That's Los Angeles)

Yes..sure would be nice if you could get an agent and then they could find you jobs.
In reality people only have agents to negotiate for jobs they already have gotten.
The agent acts as a buffer in negotiating with production/producers by asking
for more money than the Dp would ever dare to.

I'm expecting to have to do some design as a backup as the film gigs come in. its not really a bad backup to have, especially when I move closer to a big city. hopefully I can shift my design skills to perhaps some post work too, but I want to be mindful of not getting stuck in post. =)

the best agents are your contacts in the biz..

I get most my work from word of mouth..

friends in high places, recommending me to their friends.. so on..

Will I get an agent? one day.. but only when they see my work and offer to do the leg work for me.. I wont go and seek one out or submit my reel

What everyone else said. Majority of my work has come from new people on sets who like what I'm doing and ask me to come on their next project. My agent simply makes sure I get more money.
