  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Fincher, Lubezki, Nike, RED#0031, + 3 other REDS

Although the boards mag link looks good, (thanks for posting) the actual color corrected HD version looks 100 times better, please watch the NFL on sunday and you will see what I mean. thanks for all of your support.

I watched it several times today while watching former Razorbacks playing in the NFL, the spot looked beautiful. I was very proud of you guys and your work.

I am d/l the link that mattscope provided as we speak. I too can't wait for the HD version.

Nice spot...that's why they get paid the big bucks!! Any feedback from Fincher or Lubezki on their Red experience? Happy, sad, indifferent...?

from what i have heard all parties are very happy...thanks for your support.

simply gorgeous...a fantastic spot. nice to see creative directors and agencies coming up with good concepts and hiring the right people to carry out the vision. i downloaded the sd version as well, and must have watched it 20 times. the music still plays in my head...

somebody post HD as soon as it's available!

cheers, dino.

Fincher killed it. As usual, freakin rockstar!

Lovin it. What was their workflow like? I'm betting he dug the ease of the color correction process...

Stunning...

There is a ton of slow-mo shots. Were they all shot at 2K? What frame rate?

This spot struck me immediately as something different. I was blown away with the soundtrack and the progression of images.....

I knew immediately that this was done by a true artist.

How many commercials can repeatedly give you the chills...
It goes way deeper than simple images/flashy color correction.... the timing of that edit... and the children... like 2 lives intertwined, their fate to meet at that moment... that tackle.

If anyone out there has played organized football on a competitive level... when the game becomes more than a game... when defining moments of your childhood happened in that uniform.... you would agree... this spot really strikes a nerve....and I am amazed that someone could make all that happen in :30 or :60 sec! That is power.

Absolutely love this spot...

re: workflow...

we shot with two cameras for the football action in the chargers stadium, sometimes with one on a techno and one handheld; then both hand held.

most shots were below 60fps in either 2k or 3k, we never shot 4k.

i had a 24" imac hooked up to a 23" cinema display close to camera for most of the set-ups (it was a six day shoot spread out over 3 weeks). david and chivo would come over occasionally and look at stuff, but mostly they trusted the exposure based on our (chivo & I) work together on the malick movie and all the testing we did leading up to that show.

we shot with 128 gig solid state drives for the whole show, each shot would be backed up and replicated 4 times (as we do with all client footage), we would delete non-circled takes and deliver the drives to editorial after each day.

the post took many months as you can see from the original posts on page 1. so the correction happened many weeks after we shot, as you can imagine there were a lot of vfx done to this spot, so that took up the bulk of the time, kudos to rock, paper sissors and asylum for their diligent and artistic work.

as i have said in previous posts, working with these two men and the people they surround themselves with is an amazing experience, everyone is at the top of their game and it inspires all to step it up even more. so glad everyone likes it and it is living up to the hype created by the original post.

enjoy.

very interesting.
what are the vfx involved other than the crowd generation/replication in the stadiums?

A question- isn't the baby running in a diaper a cg image?

Not at all...it is the real deal, a young toddler running through a real house in encino, the house is also used for the backyard of the 13 or 14 year old LT running by the closeline, and the pillow drop of the toddler LT.

What fantastic luck (?) you guys had to have a toddler run out of a room towards camera and then turn back and run away! Awesome shot!

I have to know- did the director yell IT'S A WRAP right after this take? Did you guys all look at each other and gasp! This shot is just perfect!

there were many many takes of that shot, it was actually in the middle of our day and after that we did the pillow drop.

I must say that this really an awesome ad.

Would have been great if the initial shots of the kids growing up in their respective countries (?) were given the handheld VHS look (as if the parents had shot the videos).

Either way, a brilliant concept and very nicely done.

MrGlory and I were discussing the awesomeness of this ad the other day before I think either of us realized it was shot on RED...the fact that it is just makes it that much better. Good job man.
