  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Financing Scarlet (Or anything RED for that matter)

You can get a lease from this company or you can get a payday loan on your car at about 300% interest... It'll be about the same thing... after both your butt hurts, and your bank account is empty.

I've been working my ass of for the past month to afford it, so once my invoices are all paid, which should be this week and early next week, I will be able to just buy it.

Screw financing in this economy.

Yeah, as soon as the camera arrives, I will be able to shoot with it. I ordered 2 RED BRICKS and the CRADLE, so that it all fits on the CLUTCH. But I still need a Mattebox, EVF, Filters, Tripod, Lighting, Steadicam. The next buying spree will be another $30,000.

Why on earth did you order the cradle? Seems it would have made more sense to go with a regular quickplate or IDX plate as the cradle is for use with RED Drives... Are you planning to use the RED drive real estate for some other piece of equipment?

Are my purchases not to your liking? I'm sorry buddy, maybe next time I'm brand spanking new to RDC you could sit down with me and guide me in exactly what I should and shouldn't buy. It is fortunate that I have the money to make mistakes, some people don't.

You didnt actually answer my question there Jon.

I see no need to get defensive, I was genuinely interested to see if you were planning on doing something innovative with an accessory that many of us still have from MX kits. Like mounting an additional accessory where the Drive should go or something.

Im not sure why you are taking such offense, is it just because I said "why on earth"?

Im from England, I talk like that.

I say "chap" a lot aswell.

Sorry if it was lost in translation. ;)

Peace

Did you mean "loan" instead of "lease"? Not sure what you are trying to say here. Are you saying something negative about this company in particular?

I would guess that Scarlet wont depreciate in value for years to come, even those without Dragon upgrade. Thats the only reason a loan is even a consideration.
I'm afraid your guess has no basis in reality.
Talk to someone who bought a Red One kit a year ago, or look at the Red store prices and compare to the price of kits for sale on Reduser right now.
You clearly haven't researched this issue, so you might want to reconsider before taking on debt you can't afford.
BTW I'm trying to be helpful!

Hey man, it's cool I wasn't getting defensive, I was actually laughing last night when I read what you had written, it was just a bit of sarcasm, no harm intended. I really liked the way the cradle looked, and I imagined using it on the back end of my CLUTCH as sort of a balance. I mean as heavy as the RPP's are in the front, I would like some weight back there to help even it out. I am just starting out with RED equipment though, and I didn't realize at the time of purchase that the center area of the cradle was a red drive bay... I thought it was a dual battery setup, my bad.

If you read their website you will see that it is an equipment lease company. Meaning all of the money that you throw at the equipment never goes into the actual cost of owning the equipment. If your going to get a loan for God's sake go to a reputable bank, and not an cheesy debt based internet scam company which this one most assuredly is.

I dont mean in resale value, I mean it will be an extremely powerful camera for years to come, If RED came out with a new camera I wouldn't see why I would sell a Scarlet. Its light, I wouldn't need anything above 4K, Im not huge on slow motion, 48 fps would be suffice, and the image right now 4k 24fps on Epic/Scarlet is beautiful, looks great on the big screen, so in 5 years it would still hold its value for ME personally. And of course upgrading the sensor would still be an option in the event of wanting an upgrade.

Hey man, you do whatever you feel you need to, but I promise you that in my mind, the only place that matters to me, there is not one good reason to lease your equipment, when all of us are well able to work extra to pay cash for equipment. Ask Peter Jackson if he is leasing his 30 Epic's to make the Hobbit. Wake up son, never is it a good reason to throw money down the toilet just to have a camera for a month then give it back... Might as well go to Rent-a-Center because it's the exact same thing, except at least at Rent-a-Center gives you the equipment when your at the end of the lease. But it's still like 300% interest, which is stupid!

Leasing isn't a scam. There are lots of good reasons to lease equipment instead of buying...

Your opinion is completely valid man, and its easy to say if you have the cash, I've met plenty of guys that started with a loan. Peter Jackson has funding from studios/investors, so that is a poor analogy. I dont see how you would lose it in a month, I can see that you feel justified because you obviously have the funds to pay for it, but I dont get your attitude man. People that finance aren't mentally challenged its an option for some. this doesn't just apply to cameras, this applies to any start up, and when having enough funds would take longer than one wants to wait, your either lucky as hell and convince an investor, come from a wealthy background, or start with a loan. not many options.

and btw, In the end I wont be getting a loan. Im going to instead wait a few months and save up.

Thanks for all the advice guys

Carlos, my attitude is not against you or anyone else in this forum, I have an attitude against debt. I used to be in debt up to my eyeballs, and it took years to get out of. Today, I have paid off every debtor and credit institution that I owed, but it was a long hard road. Loans and leases are not the way to start out a business that you want to support you through times of plenty and times of lack. Bankers know exactly what their doing to get your money, they have been doing it a very long time, and this is the reason that they own almost all of the skyscrapers in every major city. We live in a debt economy, and it is completely normal for Americans to take out loans and leases and all of that to live life and have things. But I am not normal. I refuse to live in debt, I refuse to be a slave, working for an interest payment, never getting ahead, but all in all paying all of the banks bills even before I can pay mine. Been there done that, never ever going back. And now because I live this way, I can say that I have the money to buy things that I like, because I don't have to worry about paying any payments every month that I don't need, and because we have spent years saving, we now instead of using money to pay payments, used that same money to invest into good, growth stock mutual funds, and now it pays us instead of us paying the man.

So whenever we get a chance, we tell people how we went to making $8.00 an hour, having tons of debt, to making the market work on our behalf and now we don't have to do the things we used to do. Now we work when we want. But it didn't happen overnight, it was a process that took years to get out of. One of the first steps is you have to quit borrowing money. If you want something with enough passion, you'll work hard to get it. I worked very, very hard for years in jobs that I didn't particularly care for, but I did what I had to do, I did what I could without borrowing money.

That is me being real. I know that some of you don't like it, but I can't agree with you cause then we'd both be wrong ;)

In the end, for me personally, I have to end up agreeing with you. I weighed my options, spoke to a lot of people , leasing companies, banks... Its not the right option for me. Im going to be patient and save up, too young to get in debt, and doors have been opening up as of late i'll see where that leads, hopefully I'll have a RED before too long. Again thanks for your views, wish you the best!

God bless

Ahhhhhh. Ok fair enough.

Having looked at the store I find they are ticking the boxes for MX, Epic and Scarlet despite the MX being the only camera to use the drives. Little misleading if you ask me.

Although maybe its worth looking at what one could fit in that drive slot.

Yeah I'm looking at ways that I can modify the bottom area of the cradle so that I can just put an extra battery there, or something like that. I'm still working on it. I'll eventually figure something out on it.

You do realize that most major businesses do all sorts of equipment leases, right? I think you have a very skewed view of what leasing is and why businesses might prefer to lease certain equipment instead of buying.

Or you can keep thinking leasing is the same thing as a payday loan.

Hi guys,

First of all, I'm such a noob at this, and I'm learning everyday. I have a question about how to pay this Scarlet. Do you have to pay the $15,515,- in one time? Or do you pay this of per month? If so how much is it per month? Thanks.
