  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Financial crisis & RED ONE euro investors...

The Dollar will not go up, do not count on it.
Everything they have done, are doing and are giving away like
"UNLIMITED FUNDS TO GIVE" the wall street journal
Is to devalue the U.S. Dollar.

The Dollar is to be destroyed made worthless and that will bring the Introduction of the Amero.
which is tied in to so many other things.
But its a plan its not an accident.
Stock market, housing markets, bankrupted companies, bail outs, oil markets, job loss.
The reduction of the middle class down to broke.
Its no accident.

I hate it with a passion but its been designed that way.

I'd agree with Big Lu. There are no accidents. They might just skip the Amero altogether and go for one world currency given the level of the crisis. Get a bunch of world leaders together to say it's the only way out and people will accept it. It could happen.

EURO is 1.25 now.
Looks like we are going back to 1 to 1 again.

Hi,

It looks like the $ has a good chance to become the worlds no 1 currency again, with the sell off of gold & the Euro the USD will become the safe haven again. The recession in the US will end before Europe.

Hi,

Traders must have read my bullish comments 1 3/4 hours ago, markets took off the DOW & S&P closing up nearly 11%.

I feel you, we also had to pay 40% more than we had originally calculated. Rather than a nice package, we now get a bare package.

Well, but still a steal.:weight_lift:
ouch, and i thought i had it bad at 20%. but yeah same situation, Nice set up became basic needs. But a steal it is. would have done it again in a heart beat.

Try being a Canadian. we went from being 1.10 to the us$ to less than .80 just in a matter of a few months. heck even .94 wasn't so bad. but i got my camera a week ago. the exchange rate cost me $6000. a month earlier and it would have cost me a mere couple hundred. all in all. BRUTAL. that was the funding for my lighting equipment. oh well back to work till i can come up with enough to get more. So much for living next to them.

Timing is everything. I got my Red when our currency was still slighty above the U.S. dollar. So I saved a bundle.

Or at least Arri gear will become affordable in the states again!

E.U. / U.S.A. gear "bounce" (cine lens prices, etc.)

E.U. / U.S.A. gear "bounce" (cine lens prices, etc.)

The Euro is holding steady for a few days at EUR 1.28 against the Dollar. The last time this rate was seen was late 2006, so although it is a big change from the extremely low USD of earlier this year, we are still not that far out of the "normal devalued Dollar range".

Is anyone in the E.U. reconsidering their equipment purchases in light of this? Both the RED ONE cameras themselves and the lenses and accessories?

Remember that when the USD rises past the EUR (if that happens again as it was before mid-2002) Americans buy European equipment, both new and used.

When the EUR rises, the used gear in the U.S. goes back to the E.U.

My business originally depended on importing E.U. made goods and services (ex. P+S Technik conversions) to the U.S. Then the dollar sank and I began exporting refurbished used equipment (mostly Zeiss Super Speed lenses) to E.U. based customers.

I knew I was in trouble because I was selling to the E.U. customers equipment that was originally made in the E.U. Eventually supply was going to run out - and it did.

I have ONE more set of Super Speeds (a T1.4 set), and two more "orphan" primes, and after those are gone...

Those of you that are always wondering about why the prices of used cine lenses are so high - the above cause is a major factor.

If you go with conventional wisdom and follow the crowd, you are always reacting. In 2000, I went against conventional wisdom and made a bet on the Super 16mm format (everyone was so hot for DV back then... remember that? Would you shoot DV now?).

My bet paid off as people realized DV was just inferior quality highly compressed interlaced NTSC and they turned back to film. I surfed that S16 wave until it reached the shore.

Right now I am betting on Digital Cinema.
