With an apparent recover a few days ago, the euro has dropped each week. From 1.6 (+) mid July, 1.48 last week. Below 1.4, 1.397 (-) now.

An european run for dollars for paying our RED ONEs?

Jokes aside and 'cause I pay with euros, I'm worried. Win Thin (a senior currency strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co) and Merrill's Hartnett see dollar rising to $1.35 per euro during the next weeks.

Any thoughts?

EDIT -- I would prefer euro users or any expert fellow offering his/her entry here, but it is open to anyone, anyway.

If you think that the dollar will rise, which I think there is a good chance, buy the amount you need now when it is relatively low.

Its not too good against the pound either at the moment, i would love to pay now, but ive just lost £200 in the exchange rate in 2 hours, im going to have to wait till tomorrow i think and see.

Andrew.

Less than 1.36 now.

Hi,

Not so long ago the USD was worth rather more than the EURO. With banks in Germany now in trouble what makes you so sure it wont happen again, even if the EURO survives as a currency, which is not a certanty.

Stephen,

don't worry about EURO, it's much stronger currency than the British Pound, even the Swiss Franc can be jealous to the EURO :) .

Hi,

The 3 strongest currencies over the previous 100 years were the GBP, USD & CHF, nothing else came close. The Euro is a very new currency time will tell.

Stephen

Stephen,

any currency cannot and doesn't live from the history.

In that sort of market if you count on the reserves, history or tradition sooner or later you are off.

AN EXAMPLE:

"In 1931, the first big European bank run, on Creditanstalt of Austria, prompted Britain to lend it $7m for a week.
This was so feeble that, as Kindleberger says, it marked the end of Britain as a lender of last resort."

All it's about a CURRENT performance.

And it's called a CURRENCY.

In short no without a reason the financial market has a gold, diamonds, real estate, etc as a base values.

Offhollywood, thanks.

Yes, I forgot Yen from my small Viennese perspective of the world :) .

Also must watch the interview:

Arthur Kroeber of Dragonomics Research on whether China can save the world

The Dollar is within a hair of € 1.35 today.

I have to say that I don't understand it. With the US Fed pumping out Monopoly money like never before, you would think that the Dollar would be sinking.

"What has this got to do with monetary policy? Like gold, U.S. dollars have value only to the extent that they are strictly limited in supply. But the U.S. government has a technology, called a printing press (or, today, its electronic equivalent), that allows it to produce as many U.S. dollars as it wishes at essentially no cost. By increasing the number of U.S. dollars in circulation, or even by credibly threatening to do so, the U.S. government can also reduce the value of a dollar in terms of goods and services, which is equivalent to raising the prices in dollars of those goods and services. We conclude that, under a paper-money system, a determined government can always generate higher spending and hence positive inflation."
-Ben Bernanke, Nov. 2002
NOTE: My emphasis

The Swiss Franc is 100% backed by gold, and will continue to rise against other currencies as it is a "crisis currency".

Where will this end?

The Dollar's rise is short term, as people are panicking right now. With this $850 billion dollar bailout, the Fed will simply fire up the printing presses and debase the Dollar until it is crawling on its knees.

Anyone betting on the rise of the Dollar, long term, will lose. I'd say give it a few months.

So in theory you should invest all of your money in Red One's now and then when the price of Red One's increase as the dollar is deflated you should be doing fine?

But seriously, next month is my reservation number and my stomach is churning about the whole state of the economy and my position in it...

sounds like an exaggeration, but in some ways, i don't think it is that far off the mark...i'm spending money on gear right now because i'm running out of safe places to put it, even short term t-bills are looking like trash with that "fire up the printing presses" mentality. and the same gear will probably cost more later. might as well fiddle while rome burns...

Hi,

The Euro slipped to 1.25639 on Friday, the £ v Euro is relatively unchanged in the last 3 weeks.

Try being a Canadian. we went from being 1.10 to the us$ to less than .80 just in a matter of a few months. heck even .94 wasn't so bad. but i got my camera a week ago. the exchange rate cost me $6000. a month earlier and it would have cost me a mere couple hundred. all in all. BRUTAL. that was the funding for my lighting equipment. oh well back to work till i can come up with enough to get more. So much for living next to them.

The Dollar will not go up, do not count on it.
Everything they have done, are doing and are giving away like
"UNLIMITED FUNDS TO GIVE" the wall street journal
Is to devalue the U.S. Dollar.

The Dollar is to be destroyed made worthless and that will bring the Introduction of the Amero.
which is tied in to so many other things.
But its a plan its not an accident.
Stock market, housing markets, bankrupted companies, bail outs, oil markets, job loss.
The reduction of the middle class down to broke.
Its no accident.

I hate it with a passion but its been designed that way.

I feel you, we also had to pay 40% more than we had originally calculated. Rather than a nice package, we now get a bare package.

Well, but still a steal.:weight_lift:
