  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Finally saw the House Season Finale

absolutely my point.. students DONT ascetically make any choices except for.. DOES IT FEEL LIKE FILM...

I dont know.. this is all just an opinion so dont rip me apart if you dont agree:)

I think you are describing a trend that goes beyond just what students are doing... but they are usually the first to copy trends. I think you are painting with a broad brush however... it's not like they all do things the same way. For as many student films that I see which are totally pedestrian... there are a few that completely surprise me.

why is everyone so amped on FF?
and that shallow depth of field thing is SOOOOO 2003

it wasn't available or dreamed about in 2003.

get images like that onto an Epic, and the whole industry will stop to watch.

FF35 lenses are available, and will become more available.

and then there's anamorphic...

also.. yes there are some lenses available that cover FF.. i think the 5i's cover, master primes..

but what about the other millions of dollars worth of s35 glass that individual owner ops and rental houses have available.. those are NOT going anywhere...

Like I said.. in my opinion... FF will be a specialty.. not an every day format

really??? cuz im pretty sure most people used full frame nikon and canon glass on those adapters.. and would focus in on the ground grass to full frame...

Sorry, Zak. It's all news to me. I've come to Red via film, rather than adapters... only ever used PL on a PS technik PRO35
I see Letus doesn't have a FF35 adapter, but SGblade do.
I imagine the results would look a lot better in some regards, than a 5D.

I think it's fair to say though that the commercials market only caught onto FF35 in a big way in the last few months, with the 5D.
And next year it will explode further with new cameras (none made by RED) that are better than the 5D.

Mark,

The Letus adapters can cover up to full frame, depending on the model.

In any case they all cover more than the S35 area.

To qualify my above remarks, just because larger format is a good way to proceed for shallow depth of field, this seems to infer to many that larger sensors are thus at a disadvantage when it comes to facilitating greater depth of field. Not necessarily. And now that very large sensors are being promised, perhaps swing/tilt type lens mounts will become more useful, more pronounced for the largest of them. It would facilitate greater (or less) depth of field performance with many subjects. i.e a wall or fence from very close to far, converging in "perfect" focus. Not to mention correcting certain distortions.
Dare I say it, imagine a sensor the size of "monstro" being able to tilt on its axis: \ or / - combined with tilting lens. \ / . Yikes.
