2. What was the cpu, mb, vga?
3. Which OS;
3. What was the monitor;

In answer to your questions:

VLC version = 0.8.6c
CPU = 3 GHz core duo
RAM = 2 GB
Display adapter = Radeon X600 256 MB
OS = XP SP2
Monitor = Dell 2405 FPW (1920 x 1200 32 bit color depth)

So then, why it is'nt consistent?
This is not a new problem, thousands of users experience this every day for years!

My PC:
CPU: Intel Core 2 duo 6600, 2GB RAM
MB: ASUS P5N32-E SLI
VGA: ASUS EN8800 GTX
OS: XP SP2
MONITOR: Apple Cinema 23" Aluminium

Whithout any data, no conclusions can be drawn -just claims.

I can't be certain why you are experiencing inconsistencies, but I do have a test that might be worth making.

I will write a small C program to change the gamma tag and apply it to the .mov file and see how VLC reacts (or doesn't react) to different tag attributes.

Very nice. I downloaded the file then exported from Quicktime pro as a 720p mpeg4 file. Then I put it on a Sony memory stick and played it out on a PS3 connected to a 42 inch Panasonic plasma.

It looks awesome! :wink:

Why isn't using anyone the ProRes regular quality settings? I though the HQ only for multiple pass rendering. It would make these files much smaller. This RED cam stuff is amazing. So when we getting them 4k monitors with the glowing red backlight.
