Hi Guys,

I'm quite new to working with RED and Final Cut, and I guess I need your help here. I searched the forum but couldn't find the solution to my problem so here it goes:

I imported my 2K raw footage to REDAlert and eventough my shots were pretty dark, the files with the metadata looked just like I wanted them.
However I then imported the shots to Final Cut 7 and suddenly the colors and the brightness of the shot were all wrong.
I first imported the *.mov proxies to have a look, then later used the "Log and transfer" option in Final Cut to import r3d files directly.
Each time Final cut made the clip look a lot darker and as if it did in REDAlert. Also i got a very nasty noise-grain-thing over my video.

Why is final cut doing this? Do I have some settings wrong somewhere? I guess so but I can't figure out what it is.

Any help is very welcome, I'm kinda desperate ;)

Cheers,
Clemens

Hi,

Couple of things.

1. When you altered the image in Red Alert, did you resave the proxies? This is the only for your changes to be represented.

2. FCP doesn't use the new color science so your clips will always look better in Red Alert, especially in blue.

3. How do they look in QuickTime as opposed to FCP?

4. Proxies will always be a "quick and dirty" representation of your R3Ds. Basically, you should be looking to only use them for offline, and go back to the R3D for online.

5. I don't use proxies at all for this reason. I prefer to make beautiful QuickTimes using the Red software (I use a RED Rocket™ with Rocketcine X) and never have to worry about quirks like this. Makes Red life very enjoyable. I can still return to my R3Ds at the end but I usually don't have to as my QTs are perfect.

Hope this helps.

1.- Import via L&T with the RSX that RA record in the shoot folder.

2.- Import via RR with the same RSX.

3.- Export QT from RA with this settings

Anyway you can edit with proxis/offline and do the color and edit metadata in Apple Color.

... but; are you sure you wanna put a 800 ISO??, next time, ask DP for more light. The RED is an amazing camera, but needs something to eat, and eats light.
