  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Final Cut Pro X Released

Havent the forums around the world just slaughtered the new FCPX. I've never seen such a beating up in my life. Apple have really really tripped up big.
So many post houses in the last 48 hours have just turned APPLE PRO anything off... and if not off... soon to be swapped with something else.
Theres no need to panic though, FCP7 will carry us all for a couple more years.. so life is still very good.

What's a bet though if MAC continue own this path of (who cares about PRO USERS), I bet all us MAC nutters working in TV land now will be back on high powered purpose build PC's in the next 5 years.
I for one am now looking at AVID again as a viable option into the future. Haven't touch a key for 7 years.. time to revisit an old play mate. Maybe it's more user friendly these days and the arrogance replaced with go getters.

Actually might call them right now... and see whats cooking.

Before you go Avid bonkers, download a trial version of Adobe CCS5.5 Production premium. For an Epic-M owner as yourself you will be in for a treat.

I guess Apple did tell us the truth. They just hid it out in the open

Big as a billboard: "Final Cut Pro X Everything just changed in post"

They've been shootin' straight all this time and we didn't know it.

Seriously though, I hope we can all look back at this and have a great laugh cause I know they can make this great and I still have faith that it soon will be.

Apple - if you read this: Am posting this here just in case because I can't leave you a review on your own site - funny about that.

You had better tell those wimps in PR to get off their arses and address FCP users concerns. You are facing mass exodus. You have only half baked this cake before serving it to your guests and they aren't happy since you made them pay for it and had promised them how 'awesome' it was going to be.

I get that you will most likely release updates and extras (for extra money) at a later date. In fact it makes perfect sense that you sell a 'lite' version of the program and charge for the extras to make it in to a pro app for the pro users. Why would a user posting on youtube the cute thing their cat did last night need xml? Or multicam? They don't - I know that. And so why make them pay for it? You don't - I get that too. But at least give your pro users the respect they deserve and announce what is on the horizon because they are right NOW looking at the other options. And the other options work and more importantly work with established workflows. Adobe, Avid, and even Media 100 are going to do very well out of this if you don't SORT THIS OUT. Deleting user reviews on the app store is not winning you any new fans either.

Back to my cake metaphor (because I like it) - you have served up a big steaming pile of turd while trying to tell us it is the best chocolate cake ever. But one bite from people who know a good chocolate cake when they eat one, has them spitting out this brown gooey (or should that be GUI - bahahahahaha, gosh I'm witty) mess in disgust with the realisation of what's actually been served. And ask yourselves this Apple - do you think they are going to be willing to take a second bite further down the track? After they have successfully gotten rid of the bad taste in their mouths, they will find a different vendor offering delicious chocolate cake, it might be more expensive but hey, I'd pay extra not to have to munch on shit and no doubt others will feel the same.

I have used FCP since the 1999 beta release and have watched it mature over the years. It grew to be a kick-arse and quite powerful editor. But like many in the editing world, I can just as comfortably sit at an Avid, or with Premier or Media 100 in front of me and get the job done quickly and efficiently because the have ALL the tools I need. The choice for me right now is to spend $300 - 400 on your incomplete 'solution' or $800 to upgrade my Adobe CS to the latest and greatest. It's relative chump change compared to what software editors used to cost so the decision really is not that hard.

All I am suggesting you do is treat your pro users with a little respect and address their concerns. It shouldn't be too hard because I'm sure you must have at least one employee there who can write a decent press release. And if it makes a difference, a lot of your pro users buy iPhones too you know.

Email them, I highly doubt anyone at apple reads or posts on reduser

The more I use FCPX the more I like it. If I have a multi-cam job or something else which isn't supported at the moment I'll use ver 7. I don't really have the angst, especially over $299.

The key for me I guess is change is always confronting, but the more familiar and comfortable I become with it, the better I feel (aka human nature). I have no doubt that functionality will be added over time and most of the hysteria I see seems like more of human nature; people love nothing more than to have a good ol' whinge, spit the dummy, shriek and stomp their feet because they and their concerns are the most important things in the whole universe and change is so frightening. I guess the anger/passion also reflects how much secretly they love Apple and feel disappointed... like a spurned lover shrieking at her partner that she detests him.

However, many large organizations/corporations seem to me to be far too conservative and safe (FEAR) and I at least applaud Apple here for having the balls to go for a big, radical re-design. I hope the wailing criticism doesn't further solidify conservative thought in manufacture and design by others. Look at RED. Risks as far as I have seen in life, should be promoted.

Hmmmm. Open iMovie and you'll see we've been sitting on this "design" for years.

edit: But I do see what it could become and I'm looking forward to that.

I have been so happy since I moved 12 years ago to MAC from PC, but I have to admit that lately I am getting more and more annoyed at things APPLE are doing. It is so disappointing. It really bothers me.

I am so close to move to Premier. The only reason I don;t move yet is just because I love the round trip from FCP to Color and back. Anyone there, can advise me any good way to color grade from Premier having a ATI Radeon HD 4870 and a MXO2?

With the Epic coming I cannot see a way of working with FCP7, and even less with FCPX.

I am listening at Creative cow podcast. "Why We Can't Use Final Cut Pro X at Our Companies" and really I want to cry. Literally I had to stop listening because it is making me so, so, so annoyed. I really don't understand anything. Anyway, I'm happy for Adobe. It is clear that they are listening and working so hard. I applaud them. They are going to get so many new customers.

I am just speechless.

Wow, some people really need to calm down.
Mac OS X was another example. It sucked when it first came out ("OS 9 is for real work", "I'm switching to Windows", "Apple is dead" were the sentiments).

This has nothing to do with us being whiners about change or how it was when OS9 became X, it has to do with the arrogance of apple doing things with a software that calls itself pro but not caring about how stuff works in the real world. They can sit in their to be built Sci-Fi campus and imagine stuff all they want, the truth is no one can work professionally with this product in a team workflow. There's no way for anyone to share and work crossplatsform/software. This isn't "a change of how to do things", I love all the speed I get with FCPX, this is about closing their software believing that we want to do a one man show, everything inside one program with amateuristic tools in comparison to the other softwares out there.

It's about making an update to a pro software that just plainly doesn't work in the real world where the "pro"-people live.

There's a huge difference between complaining about change of editing and about the lack of features making it impossible to work with.

Why are you defending Apple? They aren't the second coming... they want profit, they took over the tablet/phone market, they don't need professional editors, it's not their main market now. Deal with it, move to other NLE's because they WORK with all your other softwares.

Why don't you? And why won't Color work with Premiere? Have you ever tried Avid or Premiere or are you assuming that they don't work with your other softwares?

Come on Apple - or at least Steve - let's hear a statement asap. Time to stop the bleeding ....

Good luck, Apple isn't open, they do what they want and they clearly don't listen.
But I imagine Steve calling in the team who made FCPX and shouting at them.

jeebus... I got 22 pages in.. and there were only a few bright lights of intelligence.. most of these posts read like they were written by a whiney 10 yr old.

<sarcasm>I guess I should avoid getting FCPX since it apparently makes FCP 7 evaporate off your hard drive..</sarcasm>

I'd wager that the r3d support is coming in due time... along with a multitude of other features.

I'm sorry but a full featured NLE that took 10 years to get to where it is now is not going to be completely re-written from the ground up in 2 (estimation) years and have every major feature right away.. it just won't.

And if Apple really didn't care about the Pro market there would be no FCPX.. you would have gotten an incremental update to FCP7 and they'd focus all their efforts on making iMovie king shit.

sheesh people.. get a grip...

If it's a professional software aimed for professionals in the field of editing, then not having any of the features that are essential for post production workflow is just stupid.
Seriously, they have a huge library of wipes no one will use but no XML, OMF, EDL support? Why do you defend their bullshit? A rewrite over 2 years and a release without the MAJOR post production features is just plain stupid on their part. It's not whining, it's professional ciriticism... I cannot use this software for editing, should I wait until they "supposedly" release support for the basics "sometime" in the future?

They worked on this for 2 years and not even the basic things for post production made it to release, how can you defend that? Get a grip

What's exacerbating the whole situation is Apple's silence. The closest thing to a statement we've gotten is few hours when all the reviews for FCPx disappeared. which may or may not have happened on purpose. A simple "we are working x features that will be available in the next update 6-8 months from now" would put out most of the fires. Most of the features left out of FCPX are dealbreakers. It's like they made a Ferrari without a steering wheel. Yes it's fast, it's powerful, and it looks pretty but its damn useless if you can't take it anywhere.

If FCPX was truly not ready for the professional market, why give it out now? I think that if they are truly working on all those pro features that FCPX lack, then if they had said: "we need to push forward the release date to implement every feature that professionals need" they would have gotten a lot of respect and support. Some would whine that they want it now, but most people would be happy that they care so much about the software that they need it to be perfect at release. It's professionalism that counts.

Yes, Red release their cameras without all features ready, but they still say "this is coming, but just not now". Apple's silence and how they market FCPX speaks a little for itself. It doesn't seem that they are working their butts off to put the professional features back in FCPX during the coming 6 months.

And seriously, you don't release a pro software with amateuristic and consumer friendly features enabled before the professional ones. That is just not how you approach a professional market, period.
I can't see any other company who does something like this... what's even worse, who gets away with it and who has fans who's not on their payroll who still defend this software. Are these people sitting at their FCPX workstation altar praying "the professional features will arrive, soon, don't listen to unbelievers, they will come, I will be in heaven soon".

Apple screwed up, Premiere and Avid is better, live with it, Final Cut Pro isn't the center of the universe, it's a software like any other, just it's not as professional as Avid and Premiere is today.
If you want a better software for your workflow I think they will do much much better. Even Lightworks when it's released will outshine FCPX.
Maybe not in terms of speed and how editing is done... but the ENTIRE workflow of post production.

Apple should take note of Reds approach to product development.
Don't hide your intentions until the day you ship. Let the customers be your partners and participate in the process throughout.

Yeah, Apple needs to change the way they're doing things because they're such an unsuccessful company.

Oh, wait.....

If they had beta testers doing a feature film they wouldn't have given it thumbs up. I don't know who they put at the beta-desk, but i doubt them being anyway near team-based professional editors.

FCPX will probably be a great app in time. Just now it not a workig solution for me. Nore sure why Apple released this now. Surely they would have predicted this shitstorm to happen?

Probably Walter Murch was one of them I think Alex Lindsay was likely another, these Beta testers probably weren't a bunch of guys they found off youtube.
Ripple Training clearly had a copy as their tutorials came out almost immediately after launch as well.
