Apple today released Final Cut Pro 6.0.6, which addresses issues with real-time playback in Early 2009 Mac Pros and Xserves. The release notes specify that the issue occurs when working with "complex sequences or high-bandwidth media formats."

The update weighs in at 19.15 MB and requires OS X 10.5.5 or later and an existing installation of Final Cut Pro 6.

Haven't given it a proper test yet, but I downloaded it and installed it today without realizing it was new. Put FCS2 on a new Mac Pro today and ran software update and there it was.

Hummm......
Link please...

It seems there's no improvements for other machines, so probably we can skip the update unless you have the early 2009 Mac Pros. I jumped for joy for a second that Apple updated to support for the new color science but naturally, no.

Red has said that that will come with updates to the QT codec and the Color plugs. It's their software that needs updating, not Apple's.

That's good, thanks Nate.

It will just show up in Software Update.

FCP works fine here after the update. I don't see any differences. If it was a performance issue with the new '09 Mac Pros, then it's gone now. I just got the new '09 Mac the other day so don't have anything to compare to. But it runs the same, although a bit faster, than FCP does on my other '08 Mac. Then again, this is newer and faster system anyway.

Thanks for the report, Jeff.
