I'm working on a documentary and I'm shooting a former glamour actress in her 80's. The actress is very focused on her appearance and wants us to shoot her with promist 2 which I think is to heavy and will stand out with the rest of the doc. Any thoughts on filters that will help her look good but are more subtle. I'm shooting with a Scarlet MX.

Thanks,
Tony

A promist 2 is pretty strong. If you can find an old school net that might be a good call. Tom Jordan at HD Planet Cameras in Van Nuys (http://www.5kcamerarentals.com) has a Dior filter that's very nice. Other than that, you might try stacking a BPM or BF 1/4-1 with a a 1/4 SFX or Glimmerglass.

That's fantastic! I'll definitely use that one. I have a sound mixer that we use who has a rack effect box with lots of lights on it that he'll tweak whenever clients give inane notes. The box isn't connected to anything, but he said clients usually prefer the sound after he makes the adjustments!

I did the shoot yesterday. I put in the lighter Hollywood black Magic filter. I thought it looked really good. Unfortunately the husband was a retired photographer and was watching everything the crew was doing and I got caught. Fortunately I had the heavier filters with me. The old Glamor actress was happy even if was not and we were allowed to continue with the shoot.
Thanks again for the advice!
Tony

Get something like a 1/2 Hollywood Black Magic and relabel the pouch and filter tag "2 ProMist" and make sure everyone on your crew knows to call the 1/2 BM a 2 ProMist...

David, any tips on how to pull this off when there is an entourage/gaggle at the monitor?

Haha, this thread is it's own hilarious little story. What's that saying? Sometimes better to beg for forgiveness, than ask for permission...

Too bad you couldn't do Alchemy Group in camera -- I woulda cranked clarity to -1 or skin to +1 (which would look insanely soft/smooth), used the 1/4 BPM, and then reset them to 0 in RCXp after the fact.

David, I like your advice. On one film Fay Dunaway was the star and we did extensive testing. I was using a black Fogal Noblesse net behind the lens. Fay asked me first off if it was a Fogal and then said "A white one of course!" I lied and just said yes. Fay was very diligent and went to the lab to see all the tests. I have never told her it was a black net instead of white.

Hi Peter,
What would have been the impact if you would have used white Fogal instead of black? I have no idea about such behind the lens filters and filtration and hence asking.
Cheers,
