Hi all,

I'm, hopefully, only a few short days away from my first Epic unboxing and realised that I have covered all my bases - except for any kind of filters.

I decided to get the rotating filter tray (138 mm) for ease of use and based on the advise my great bomb squad rep gave me with the Red MATTE BOX W/ CAGE & SIDE FLAGS.

I've done some research on reduser for other people's filter choices, read the usual areas I go for advice like Vincent Laforet etc, but most seem to deal with the standard RED PRO MATTE BOX FILTER TRAY which holds 4×5.6 size filters.

Coming from a 5d background, I mainly used ND filters and for the most part they were variable.

Ill be using the Epic in a range of different scenarios where a matte box isn't always going to be part of the rig.

For starters I'm getting the RPP 18mm and Zeiss CP .2 35mm/T1.5 and 85mm PL mount lenses.

The Red motion mount sounds great but won't be around until the end of the year.

So, I'm looking for some advice - especially from those using a similar rig. I read about different filters adding some strange colours on a Red sensor camera - but who's to know fact from fiction!?

My priority is ND and lens protection for the most part - but understand the need for a few specifics.

Ill be shooting 90% music shoots over the next 6-12 with a mix of inside/outside shooting using the rig on a Zephyr for quite a few shoots also.

What would you suggest gives me a broad range of use? Schieder, Formatt? The list goes on.

Thanks for the help - really appreciate it.

Dave.

Dave,

I've been really happy with my formatt nd filters. I have .3 through 1.2 and a hot mirror. And you can't beat the price! I would suggest adding a 1.5 and maybe a 1.8 to the mix for your outside shooting.

Thanks for that Dave. You're the 2nd person in as many days to say that!
