I've been looking at a couple different places for insurance, and www.filmins.com seems to be about a third the cost of others. Has anyone used them and made a claim with them?

Not yet, though a few reputable users here have reported successful claims with them which is what led me to buy over an untested provider.

When I'm trying to get a quote, both filmins and this other asked me if I had any quotes out with " One Beacon Insurance Company". I'm assuming since I did a quote with filmins, I do - and the above won't let me proceed if I indicate I have a quote already. Strange.

When dealing with those online companies, how quick can you get a certificate issued to get someone covered?

General liability, in an industry that isn't normally associated with high levels of risk, should typically run well under $600 for a 1 million dollar policy. Obviously, a higher limit or removal of more exemptions will cause the price to increase.

Several people have recommended the professional photographers association to me...$15,000 coverage for just over $300 a year, which is what I was going to get once my Scarlet arrives.

Domestic or World Wide ?

Domestic or World Wide ?

Do these companies cover overseas locations ?
If so, I'm wondering if they care which country you are in.

I am primarily looking for loss and damage coverage. Their web pages sure make it hard to see roughly what they are selling and for how much.

The insurance I bought (linked earlier) has international coverage and covers nearly everything except theft from unlocked vehicles, unless you opt into it. Fire, theft, damage, hail, water damage is all covered.

I also researched filmins and they have a pretty good rep. I was quoted $475 a year for $28,000 of owned equipment. The reason they ask you about one beacon is because filmins is only the broker and one beacon is the actual insurance company.

But have any of you actually had to submit a claim?

Yes.

Onebeacon Insurance is the underwriter for both brokers, Filmins and Heffernan (insuremyequipment.com)

Damn, I want to get insured where you are.

On my last two bigger shoots, I paid 900 and 1600 for ONE DAY of insurance (1 mill coverage, one had auto coverage because we were dealing with expensive cars).

I got quoted 3800 for the year.

I want under 600...and I want it now.

Hey ryanpostas

Since the Scarlet is a video camera, would the PPA still cover it?
