  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Filming greenscreen question

OK so i shot my first green screen on scarlet, shot about 150 gigs 8:1. I think I regret shooting it at iso 800, little green dots flying all over, Now debating what is next? I dont want to key all the footage, so I think I will export Proress 1920 by 1080, edit the commercials, key out in fcp show it to client, after approval, key out in affter effects so its perfect. present it to client. i don't want tot o key out all the footage.

Not sure if you meant magenta backlight or just backlight but I think its better to stay away from that since its a good chance you end up with both green and magenta spill to work with. Also it is better to just backlight if the background have an motivated light.

Cheers!

Im not talking a typical strong/hot backlight. At the ASC greenscreen course they taught us to use a diffused backlight which will help with separation as well as with the green spill. It is barely noticeable as a "backlight", but it does help eliminate spill and give a cleaner key.

Theres nothing worse than a green screen shot with an unmotivated backlight, but thats not what I'm talking about. It's not for this effect but in order to pull a better key.

yeah, just pull quick keys if you need them for editing, going offline is fine, then sync them up at the end. otherwise, just keep it online and pull keys outside your editing package. noise reduction helps. i recommend neatvideo.

make sure just because your shooting 800ASA that you light properly and not just shoot 800ASA to boost your low light levels on set. Also, 8:1 should be fine but to pull an even better key shoot with a 5:1 ratio.
