I am trying to shoot a short I wrote, and the location I need in a community location ( A Basketball Court ) so they are requiring me to get a permit, which requires me to get film production insurance.
This isn't a big shoot or anything, but the quotes I'm getting are around $600 for the day for the production insurance. Does that sound right? Also can you list where you get your insurance from for things like this, thanks.

Hey, Jason:

I can't tell where you are in the world, but I'm in Chicago and have used this company and they really treated us right:

http://www.johnsonese.com/

The owner, Chris, who has since become a friend, is a reasonable guy who understands indie issues and will work within your budget to get you the best deal. We shot a two-hander -- one set, no moving cars -- and the rate was the best we found (and much less than you were quoted).

Email him directly at chris@johnsonese.com and tell him The Hoovers sent you ;)

Best of luck.

Insuremyequipment is what a lot of us use and is great!

I send all of my renters here. They seem to be good. They do have a minimum $271 policy rate. So if you are being quoted $271... you might as well add on features like loss of use.

Doesn't sound incorrect but I'm sure there are cheaper coverages elsewhere.

I pay for blanket coverage (liability, location, and equipment) for the year through TCP as recommended by a friend of mine and it's great. I pay just over $2k/year and it covers all my shoots (that's my basic premium, however I have additional aerial and workman's comp). If you find yourself doing more than 5 shoots per year, it's more than worth it. Protects you and the people working for you. If you are interested, let me know and I can link you up with my agent who helped me get setup.

thank you all so much!
