Film Music Composer... Shorts/Features

Justin,

Great work. I have a question, if you don't mind. By any chance do you use the Vienna Symphonic Library? Also, can you do your own mastering? Oh, and finally, what is the best way to contact you privately? Through a message in your website? Or through this forum (PM's)?

Manfred, Thank you! Ya, it basically all comes to the same place, so if you sent a PM, or Email, It would eventually end up in my inbox. :) But yes, I've used some of the VSL patches. I prefer Sonic Implants for strings and I mix and match just about everything else.

Yes and No on the mastering question. Depends on how OCD I am that particular day. :shiftyph34r:

Cool... I'll be in touch soon. And thanks for your prompt reply.

I strongly suggest everyone check out the recent short 'O2' that Justin (Edgen) scored, absolutely amazing, you'd think that Hans Zimmer or John Williams had done it. Book Justin before he's too expensive for the average Reduser :-).

Edgen,

I just listened for 45 minutes and here are my thoughts, for what they are worth (free!).

I couldn't find anything appropriate for a comedy, which is relevant to me at least, since that is what I am working on now. Many many scenes don't involve an impending Armageddon.

As for the serious/dramatic stuff, you have it covered.

As for lighthearted and comedic, I think maybe a little exploration would be useful. Different instruments, rather than all orchestral, and different modes (throw a 7th or a major chord in somewhere).

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the thoughts! :) and.. for listening to for that long. Wowa!

Yep, most of my stuff is on the dramatic/darker side because that is the types of projects I would prefer to work on. Sure, I've got a bunch of "comedic" type scores under me, but just never posted those cues. :) I cringe at thought of them now. Yick. :cold:

Major chords? those are few and far between but they manage to pop out here and there. (its a secret weapon) I'm definitely not ones of those light and fluffy composers. If you need one of those, I've got a list of my composer buddies I'll be happy to refer you to.

Thank you again for checking out my music.

Justin,

I want to send yo a PM about a project but it won't let me.

Shoot me an E-mail at Darren@r88s.com

I want to see if you would be up for doing a development project for a feature, shoot me an e-mail and we will chat more.

Thanks!

Darren, I had the box checked for "buddies and moderators" only. So, everyone else got a message I had disabled it. PMs should work. Otherwise, email will do perfectly!

Thanks for the msg.

I just wanna state that yesterday I was listening to some of your music on your website.

Battlestations really caught my ear, good stuff.

And now I'm listening to it again.

saawweet! "Battlestations" was recorded in seattle at Bastyr college. :) Thanks for the kind words.

I actually added a full bio to my reel page too. It's now more than, "I write music for films"

Hi Darren

Great work! Wow... I have a short film which I just shot in the South of France on the RED ONE, which may interest you. There's no dialogue... and it ends in a murder!

The film will be transfered to 35 mm and will be finished on Scratch.

I have edited the first 5 1/2 mins if you'd like to see it?

Best regards

Heaaayyo!! Just wanted to see how everyone's summer was going and/or if you are wrapping up Post Production edits and are in need of a composer for your summer/fall projects.

I've got a few more credits to my work along with a few new Orchestral demos online. Check out my site to listen to new music and videos and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
