You can always get a monitor that supports 3D LUTs and build one that works well to help you achieve a look on set that translates well in post for you. I have two on camera monitors that work really well in this regard and don't break the bank at all. The Portkeys BM7 and the Portkeys BM5 which I just got and so far is a dream to work with. That one costs $499. Very bright for outdoor use and good color and plenty sharp. All kinds of scopes and other tools. So, for these older RED cameras, that's one way to address this.

Hi Steve I've decided to take your advice - finally! Since you have both, which one would you recommend, the Portkeys BM7 or BM5? My biggest problem is focusing out in the wild either in bright sunlight or snow. Is it worth paying more for the BM7 or is the BM5 good enough in your experience? Many thanks for your advice!

If you like smaller rigs the BM5 II is the way to go. Sharp, bright, lots of built in tools. Just make sure you are buying legit product. If you go through Amazon make sure it's being sold direct by Portkeys.
