  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FILM CONVERT versus CINEGRAIN?

Lance i can't see any examples of RED footage on your website. Can the grain/grade be applied to a 4K image?

I am not Lance, but yes, you can apply it to the R3D directly using the stand-alone application.

thank you luis, what would be great is if there was a plug in for resolve.

Mathew,

Thanks for doing this, an publish it for peer review.

The big bang of FilmConvert is, IMHO, the film emulation. They have nailed it big time. As early adopter, it is part of my pipeline, specially when the awesome OFX is available for public use for Resolve.

I personally only use grain as either visual FX, or to mask low quality footage artifacts. I love my clean R3Ds in 5K, and in 6K after the Dragon upgrade.

I made some free 4K film grain for overlaying....it uses real film scans and can be customized with your own film scans....can someone please try it and tell me what you think? It stopped me from buying plugins, pre-scanned stuff (which is awesome, just expensive).....and I'm fussy.

Matthew,

Is there a way to get your grain sample WITHOUT Edius (Windows)? There is a majority of people in this cyber-community that are Mac centric. Please advise.

Thanks!

And it works so perfectly...! I think is the best tool I have to grade within Resolve.

I have realtime playback in resolve at 1/4 resolution with plenty of nodes. Will using film convert be real-time as well? I don't care about the grain just the LUTS.

Hi Robino, the plugin is GPU accelerated, so likely yes. But you can install the trial version and try for yourself. Let me know what speed you get

I have CineGrain and just bought FilmConvert as well. Cinegrain does give you a lot of control but I haven't even fully explored the FilmConvert UI yet. The reason I downloaded the FC trial was that Cinegrain didn't "work" when I was doing a fade to black. Also, I had titles that were scanned handwritten text (white on black). When I dropped these on top of my images with blend mode set to lighten, they were cut out from their black bg perfectly. With Cinegrain on top, their bg appeared again. I understand there are workarounds for this, but Film Convert worked right out of the gate. No fuss, no muss. Both are great products in my opinion and each have unique assets.
