Hi, I'm having big issues with my Atomos samurai blade running fw 5.1. The issue occurs when I'm triggering record using record flag in the sdi signal. The unit overheats and i loose loads of data! However triggering record using record run makes it work fine.

Atomos are looking into it but i wondered if other scarlet users have been having this problem?

Hey Magnus, (might have thought I'd see you here! :)) - loss of data like how? Across multiple clips? What kind of loss - file names/file wrapping messing up too or just visual artifacts within the proxies? In what way does the unit overheat? What drive are you using?

Hey Sam, Great to hear from you! Have you got a blade? If you were having this problem you'd know about it!

Basically files are corrupted so won't play in quicktime, some have 0kb size others are bigger and can be recovered using software, some takes disappear completely. Sometimes the partition table corrupts and the drive won't even mount. Probably affects about 10% of all clips on the drive.

Multiple clips recorded, the unit seems to get very hot although I've not measured the temperature exactly. I've got two drives a HGST 1tb (highly recommended drive) and a Sandisk Extreme SSD 128gb, same troubles with both drives. I've returned the unit and got a replacement blade but new one has exactly the same problem. So I'm thinking it's a firmware issue so wanted to know if other people with blades running fw5.1 are seeing the same behaviour?

and... all these problems disappear if I set the blade to rec-run trigger... spooky.

That does sound scary man....fortunately/unfortunately, I haven't it happen to me and I've been shooting with it and my Scarlet for a few months now. Could it your drive?

Hi, are you triggering the blade by record flag? I've tried two drives (both approved) and they both do the same thing. Also have a new unit and it's the same too. So you've got this same setup and you're finding it's all cool? Maybe it's an issue with my scarlet then... I'll try updating firmware.

I too have had issues with my Blade!!!! Lately thought (knock on wood) I have been okay but Atomos if you are reading these post fix this issue!!!!!

Just had another card go bad just a sec ago!!!!! You need to fix this or I will not use your stuff anymore Atomos!!!!! WFT man not cool!!!!

the footage is gone, usually I have some broken files but when I insert the drive the drive doesn't read it :(

Hi neil,
I've had this happen, if you get the drive plugged into a mac and use disk utility to repair disk, sometimes you get everything back. Worth a try

Ive got a Samurai Blade and its worked well I have not seen these issues. However I have not used my Blade a ton just on occasion.

So please keep us informed on what the solution was cuz I'm a bit worried now.
Thanks for these posts guys I'm watching to pick up any valuable info.

Hi, I'll surely keep you updated. I still have faith in the blade, the screen is seriously nice and on TC-run trigger it works really well. So fingers crossed it'll be all fixed by a firmware update... Here's the response from Atomos so far. I would have liked a bit more urgency....but at least they're looking into it:

"I have logged your issue in our bug tracker and will try to have an engineer look into it after NAB." Atomos Support

Hi guys, just wanted to update on this issue. After 6 months the Blade still corrupts files if I use Record Flag trigger... It's consistent and reproducible. So I just record with TC run trigger, which for the most part is fine for me. However sometimes I need to use the record flag and then this gets extremely annoying!

I just wanted to say here that after endless attempts to request help from Atomos support, they have done nothing at all. My latest message is still un-answered after 3 weeks. At first they said they would get a red epic in and test this problem, but it never seemed to happen because they stopped mentioning it after a while. Since then they've just avoided the issue.

I thought maybe they didn't believe me.. So I've sent them example corrupt files, disk utility repair reports and a detailed description of how to reproduce the problem. And they've ignored it all as far as I can see.

Just thought you guys should know!

i had a similar problem only yesterday. Had the Scarlet set to 'external recording' only and my samurai blade was dropping and corrupting files constantly. The red record light was coming on but when i checked rushes there was nothing there. I changed back to constant record on the scarlet and inserted an SSD and the Samurai is now behaving itself! Anyone had that one?

Terrible thing to have happening. Feel for you guys.
Have you tried to play back the clips in the Blade before hooking it up to a Mac?
only had problems with my Samurai when a Corsair SSD bricked. (I don't have the Blade though)
I have used mine for 10 weeks straight without a hickup this autumn, I think I'm on 4.2.
Will certainly not upgrade before this shoot is over

spoke too soon. Now both spinning disk drives that previously worked fine will not show up in the samurai or on the desktop. Just ordered 2 SSD to replace...

Ive had problems with the REC trigger faliling after some takes, requiring a reboot to get it going again.
Early this year I had some corrupted files. Quicktimes that couldn't be opened. Atomos said that they couldn't do recovery, and suggested a third party app for recovery, that failed, as did several others I had a theory that the corrupted files were as a result of loss of power to the unit while a file was in in playback, but i didn't test that theory. I just stopped using the Samurai Blade.
I have no idea right now why I'd buy another product from them.
Maybe i'll try to pick up the pieces and test that theory about power loss when I get the chance. Having the REC trigger fail is just about a deal breaker for my purposes, anyway.
