a question that went to my mind..
will RED develop a wavelet codec for storing such data? or will use third party codec for this job.. say prores or cineform?
btw, i know after a few hours there is an announcement about scarlet..

There was mention in the past (even before they shipped the RED One) of a "REDCODE RGB" format. I would bet on that. I don't see RED using another codec they would have to license from someone else.

Of course, we won't know for sure until RED tells us how it will work.

Which will hopefully be in 16 hours!

I'm guessing that it's RGB, but it's not inconceivable that they'd have a scaled raw format - but there could be a lot of issues when it comes to demosaicing and processing the image, so, yeah, probably RGB.

If Red is going for a more video friendly work flow I would expect some form of YUV broadcast standard format 4:2:2: or 4:4:4 encoded file for direct ingest into current editing systems.

DNxHD baby. :smash:

10-bit 4:4:4 surely. They've obviously got the data rate available, and they proudly boast that they're scaling (not binning), so it would sure seem strange to then throw a way a bunch of chroma resolution at the end of the pipe.

The announcement of the RED RAY Pro also included the news of a .RRD file or Red Ray Distribution file. The people that saw footage from the RED RAY at NAB (I think) last year said it was fantastic with an incredibly low bit rate (like sub HD bit rate for full 4K).

So it seems they have everything covered from capture to delivery.
