Could shipping and receiving at RED please stop placing restrictions on packages below a certain denomination. Normally I'll call FEDEX and ask them to place a hold at a local facility if I will not be home. But it seems that the shipping department places a restriction so that it has to be signed for at the delivery address only, not allowing the recipient to place a hold on the package. When I call FEDEX to place the hold, they say RED has to call to change the restrictions and there is absolutely nothing that I can do at my end. Incredibly frustrating to come home to see multiple failed delivery attempts for something that I need. If it's an Epic camera then by all means place the restriction but when it's a smaller accessory this seems a bit overboard.

Wouldn't it make sense to contact your Bomb Squad rep directly rather than complaining here? I can sympathize with you but I can't do a damn thing to help.

I did contact them, and they are helping. It's more of a recommendation than a complaint. There is an issue, and I recommended a solution. This is not the first time this happens, they do it with every package regardless of the contents so it is also not an issue that strictly relates to me which is why I posted this. You may not be able to help Terry but if others are having the same issue they may pipe up and someone may begin to listen.

To be honest, I seem to recall asking for a package to be held for pickup (from RED) and not having a problem. Just an observation.

In my case, I simply stop by FedEx the evening the delivery attempt was made to pickup. Once I had a UPS order, from Adorama, that was not allowed to be held at UPS. I had to actually be home and sign to take delivery. I did not know that was even possible until that experience.

Well maybe it's an isolated incident then, and it coincidentally happened to me on multiple occasions. My guess is that shipping and receiving is not always paying attention.

My experience with all shipping companies is that if you don't like the answer you're given, hang up and call back. Chances are the story will have changed.

Like Stacey said, the first time this happened to me I didn't know it was possible. I tried calling FEDEX multiple times because I thought maybe the representative I was speaking to was confused. On the third call I thought I was getting close, till just the very end when the rep stopped himself in his tracks and tells me he can't place the hold , and that I would need the shipper to contact FEDEX in order to change the restriction so that I can place the hold. So different FEDEX reps, different packages, same story.

I have a pretty good story of how I was able to pick up at fedex instead of them delivering it next day, long but funny story short. I had to put the manager of FedEx Mespeth in Brooklyn on the phone and ensure and say that he "wasn't gonna rape me" cause that's what "I felt" he was gonna do if they weren't gonna let me pick it up at the facility that day.

It's all about how you approach the situation....

I gave up long ago trying to sync my life's schedule with FedEx (and Red/ Abel/ Arri, whomever)
I have everyone ship to a nearby FedEx print & ship facility. It's got pretty good hours, and I just pick up when I can. I even saved the address as an alternate in my profile on the red store.
Pretty annoying, but whatever. I agree it would be nice if they sent "no signature required" on smaller items but I don't think it's ever gonna happen.
Cheers,
Harry
