  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FedEx left a Scarlet Box on my Doorstep

This morning, my roommate left for work and stepped over my Scarlet

which FedEx conveniently left on the street in front of my apartment. I didn't receive a FedEx email--to all those who did, do you have an account?

The lens body cap was also half on, half off, but I was too excited to care too much. Has anyone noticed the camera smells like a new pair of shoes? Then realized it's the awesome foam lining that box comes in?

Anyone in New York who wants to join forces, I'm looking forward to it.
 
We have our FedEx account set up to require a signature. Should just be an isolated incident.

Hey there Ryan! I'm an NYU film student who ordered the Scarlet back in early Dec. so I prolly won't get mine for a while. I had an Epic-M kit being delivered from Red, sitting at a Fedex Depot, held for pickup, last May. Thought that would be safer and surer.
Before I got there, it was handed to, and signed for, some random guy, who took it to Maine.
They tracked him down the next day, and I got the camera back.
 
Congrats Ryan...on not getting it swiped before your roommate happened upon it. If it had been in my building, the porter would've sold it for 50 bucks already. Hey, where in New York are you? Maybe we can join forces when we get ours.

Thanks Brent, that's why I didn't even bother to contact my rep. I knew it was just a FedEx guy who had no idea what was in that unmarked box!

I trust you guys, FedEx, no more... maybe next time I think I'll ship hold for pickup?
 
My suggestion: enclose an airline-size miniature of RED team's favorite booze as a thank you gift. My FedEx guy loves to play 'Ding-Dong-Dash,' but never when the package is labeled "Alcohol inside: adult signature required."

Of course, that might not go over so well with some of RED's younger customers ... :tongue:

At least here in Finland that's more like the M.O. for FedEx deliveries. I've received FedEx deliveries worth thousands of euros exactly two times and both times they supposedly required a signature and photo-ID. In reality they just left the first one on the doorstep and the second they just gave to the first person they came across (who thankfully was a coworker).
 
Fedex occasionally leaves items I would expect to have to sign for at the cleaners next door, not sure how safe it is, but so far I havent lost anything.

Congrats on the safe, if questionable delivery. Do you have a sidehandle/touchscreen/redmote such that you can actually shoot with it?

Always good to know other owners in NYC, or at least it will be when my Scarlet arrives. How will you be using your camera, operator/dp/director/renting? You must've really put your order in early. I put mine in in the first 2hrs or so and it still looks like I'm quite a ways down the list.
 
Noah and Jaadgy, thanks for reaching out, at present I don't have a side handle or LCD, will be renting until they arrive. I shoot narratives, music videos, branded content and fashion films--similar to you Noah, actually I've come across your website a couple of times in the past.

The package will be available along with Bartech follow focus, Zeiss prime lens set, O'Connor head, shoulder mount, O'Connor O'Box, filters, Kino 4x4s, HIDs, 250, 350, 650, 1K fresnels. PL-mount as soon as a job calls for it.

Yes! I love that new shoes smell
I grew up skateboarding ; ) and the smell was that of awesome new skate shoes

im actually really freaked out by this...

Fedex left a Cooke iPanchro on my doorstep.... despite the vert CLEAR authorized signature ONLY. I live in a safe building so its no big deal, but i've seen them leave packages on the street when noone was home. They are horrible in NYC. UPS all the way.
 
I have everything shipped to my office. We're on a first name basis with our UPS/FED-EX guys. Our old UPS guy was the greatest ever and we would hang out when he was done with deliveries for the day.
 
Timur, ha, it was on the street. And I live in Greenpoint, 1 block from the BQE, any curious driver could've snatched it and been on the Triborough bridge in 10 minutes. Again, not Red at all, just hapless Mr. FedEx.

PS you have no idea how often I think about renting those gorgeous Panchros or your 18-100... it's bad. Every time I end up shooting Nikon or renting the DuAll Cookes, but someday you'll hear from me.
 
On the other hand, I live at the end of a dead end street, in an extremely low traffic and friendly neighborhood. When it's raining outside my postlady sometimes opens my front door when no one answers and slides packages inside. I wish I could sign a ups/fedex signature waiver and just have everything left at my front door since sometimes I have to wait a few extra days to have packages redelivered. Of course I would feel differently if I lived where Ryan lives.

Ryan, I'm glad this turned out to be just an anecdote and not a war story. Enjoy your new camera.

Did you get a touch screen or a side grip or a red mote with that... or is it to be used as a door stop till then.

A question to Scarlet users.. how do you control any of the functions without one of these vital parts. ?
I know my EPICs are useless without at least one of these 3 items to function it...

I like that Canon mount :) sweeeeeeeeeeeet... (homer simpson tummy gumble SFX)

Man your lucky it wasn't stolen! FEDEX did the same to us with a REDONE body, thank goodness I live on acreage !! away from prying eyes.
