Could Red One has a feature enabling one to store a frame of some old clip, import it from the CF or SD card to the LCD, and set the opacity to exploit the image in creating the same framing or whatever. Perhaps those making lot of keying would also appreciate such a feature.

Second, in addition to QT proxies it would be useful to be able to get the first frame of each file as an image in the root directory.

two great suggestions.. thanks.

This would be nothing short of FANTASTIC.

Load a frame at 50% opacity (or user adjustable opacity) from SD card.

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! WANT IT!

I remember seeing that first request on a SI-2K camera and thought it was cool. Now that you brought it back to mind I remember another cool thing with SI that could work for Red aswell: Having the software that runs the camera being able to install also on a computer (macbook pro). It's sooo awsome remotelly handle the camera like that...

It sounds like you're basically saying something I've said Red should consider for some time now.

1. Take a close look at SI's software.
2. Do something similar.

SI has had integrated color management (that continues through post), integrated multipic still store with overlay for multiple pass lineup, simple touch screen operation, and a breakaway design (allowing only the sensor and its necessary physical support to operate independently of the physical camera box, and directly with laptop control if you want) for a number of years now. All great concepts, all really useful, all things that have been hinted at by Red but not implemented. Yet. But if you want these features, SI makes a very compelling product that delivers all of them now.

At 2K, of course.

And a GUI to control all of these great features from an app runnning on the USB connected PC/MAC. (WiFi on the EPIC and SCARLET, and perhaps the RED ONE with a wireless USB device).

Yes! Yes!

To take it one step further, how about loading any image to be placed as an overlay. The user-selectable opacity is great. An alpha channel would be killer!

YES and YES...
Any overlay option would be great. for either plate matching or you moved your lock off before getting all your shots, really there are hundreds of reason an onion skinning feature would be amazing. the best part is its totally feasible!

With the new cameras spec'd to have "WiFi control", this probably isn't too far off.

good idea ...oh the tricks you could pull with such a feature. I'm sure three are outboard boxes that could do this easily but outboard boxes are such a pain that they'll rarely get used unless rather needed. From a vfx standpoint that would be great.

I think the first suggestion has been going on since DVXuser's Think Tank. So there you go, RED guys. :-)

Concerning the second suggestion - I'd love to be able to see the actual thumbnails of the clips - also in REDCine before importing them, since my visual memory is better than numerical and since I'm...uhmm...shooting visual stuff... :whistling:

An addition to an addition to a second suggestion:

RedCine "Load Shot" views:

1. Logging view
2. Thumbnail & clip marking view - after you add this option some day ("bad", "good" & "maybe" - R, G & B coloured dots or squares next to a thumbnail)
3. Combined view

If clip marking is an option I suggest clip filtering option on "Load Shot/All" menu:
"Load Shot" > "G"/"G"&"B"/All"

Having a transparent frame store overlay for framing purposes is a feature that's been around in other camera systems for quite awhile. My old Sony D30WS/DSR-1 has this as a feature called Freeze Mix. I'd love to see RED implement this! Sure it can be done the old fashioned way; but when you're out in the field, who wants to lug around a deck and switcher when it can be easily done in camera?
