Has RED considered doing a very cheap and very small SSD size that we could use ONLY for storing Black shading maps, Key mapping export, firmware upgrades etc.. this "SSD" would only need to be like 128 megs (heck it could be an SDor compactflash card inside the SSD casing)...no need for speedy flash memory or anything. Just pure storage. This would help dramatically and then we wouldn't have to use our expensive SSDs just for that function (it would also allow us to always have it on hand as opposed to formatting the SSD...copying from a laptop etc...)

I too would love this... To have a few of these wherever the camera goes to have the latest firmware, a rollback version, presets, etc. Everywhere you go. It would be great!

+ 10

when the original specs came out for the camera, I was excited it would have wifi capabilities. I imagined remotely dialing in looks from a computer (redcine) connected by wifi to the camera along with endless other possibilities like loading presets, etc. Is there still hope for this sort of thing?

I think the iPad app will offer similar to this

Idea has been the birth and discussion item du jour in many threads on REDUser.
Has always been a "must have" from the first day someone posted the idea.

Another solution that has been proposed is a REDMAG SSD shell with internal CF card adapter.
Increases the options to download log files, reset firmware, ___you name it___ in remote locations when a REDMAG reader just was not available...
Great way to repurpose all of those CF cards from the early RED One days...

Well it doesn't hurt to "revive" an idea and bring it back to light.... ;)
And yes reusing the CF cards from RED one for that purpose would be great!

Possibility for Meissler module to implement this. Functions remotely with the camera already and could potentially work with shading profiles.

Great idea, or adding an SD card slot to future modules like the RED One had.
Being able to store presets on an iPhone would be freaknig amazing. Can't wait for the iPhone app. Don't know whats taking them so long, unless it's because it will kinda obsolete the REDmote...
