The Red One is essentially a computer with a lens on it, so in the next build could the camera give us a dialogue prompt for when we're shutting down the camera? I recently hit the power button on accident while recording and shut down the camera mid-shot. Yikes!

The feature could either be on the order of: "Are you sure you want to shut down?" (If YES, hit power button again. If NO, press "undo" or "exit.")

Alternately, a feature could be added wherein you'd have to hit the power button AND another button in order to shut down, like a safety mechanism.

Anyway, I know I've seen at least one other user ask for this, but having been the victim of an accidental shut down, I want to chime in and say that I now see the use in this as well.

I am surprised that it is even possible to shut down the camera while it is recording.

Anyway, here is a suggestion for an easier solution: you have to push the off button for 2 seconds to get the camera to shut down.

(And this leaves also a nice option open for a future firmware: pushing the button briefly will put the camera into sleep mode - but only when it is not recording)

Excellent ideas. We had one shoot where it was shutting down just by passing our finger over the power button. It hasn't done it since, so I believe it was a static electricity deal or something odd.

Ooo, I like that! I've shut it down accidentally as well. Holding 2 seconds sounds like a good idea.

Actually , all Film - HD - HDV - Mini-DV etc... cameras can be shut down while recording .It s a matter of protecting the area where the button is.Some have a locks yes ,but professional cameras don't.And the Red Team has probably more important things to fix first.

For the Red ,I just stick 2 plastic washers in front of the on\off button.(velcro) The diameter of the hole in the washer is just a bit smaller .Your pinky will become your fail-safe tool .

Even on the blind side of camera you will always feel your washers when you pass the hand in the back.

But please be more creative then me,I'm sure there is a cool little cap you could find from other objects around you.

A major problem with confirmation using different button is that you would not be able to turn the camera off in an underwater housing without additional access to that different button.

If a confirmation is introduced, it should be optional (selectable) feature. Otherwise, for example, Aquavideo housings would not work with Red One anymore as it does not have access to other buttons and it is not easy, cheap or convinient to provide them. Same applies to my housing and many other underwater housings.

Beides, I haven't seen any other camera asking you like Windooze "Are you sure?" for just about anything you want to do :bleh: Simple solution: be careful what button you press whether you are a DOP, car driver or an aircraft pilot :clown2:

Easy ya'll, a new system setting that's a tri-state control
Confirm Shutdown?
-Yes (requires the 'okay?' prompt)
-No (same as it is now)
-Rec (only show the 'okay?' prompt if actively recording)

Yes, that will work.
