We have just finished the German part of our shoot in and around Reichenbach im Vogtland, mostly in sub-zero conditions. Even indoors! The actor's breath looks amazing in many shots!

Filmed on Red #3244, using the Red 18-50mm lens, this is a sci-fi thriller.

Outdoors was almost totally available light.
Indoors was lit with two 2.5kW Arri HMIs, and a set of 150W Dedolights (many thanks to Uwe Schneider and his very helpful team at Media City Atelier in Leipzig).

I directed it, with the massive help and support of Cliff Eastabrook (1st AD), Jody Williams and Ellis Adby.

Here are some screengrabs, with basic colour grade, downscaled and converted to JPG in Photoshop. I will post more when I get a few spare minutes!

how were 150's? enough light? i'm considering getting them. the actor's faces seem a bit dark in the indoor shot, but since there is a nice bright light in the background, it seems it's intentional for the scene. what was lighting the actor's faces?

and thanks for sharing. :)

LOL!!!

The bright light in the background was the Dedolight 150!

The actor's faces are lit from a silver reflector, which is picking up some light from the 2.5kW which was out of shot to the left of camera. Does that make any sense? I'm sure a picture would be worth a 1000 words here!

Okay, that's funny. And here I was thinking for some reason... I don't know why, that the 150 wouldn't be enough. Maybe because I was thinking of putting on gels or filter to balance it to daylight. But it looks like it still would put out a lot of light. Cool.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks.

Lovely shots, Anthony. Sci-fi thriller ey? :-) Sounds interesting.
