FD times recently had a 1 hour lunch discussion with some of the industries top lens manufacturers and rental houses in order to come up with, or at least start the discussion about making a new lens mount that will become the new standard for cine lenses/cameras. In addition to that they are looking for something that is easily adaptable to almost every other lens mount out there for transitional reasons. (Who wants to remount all their PL glass ).
The take away from the discussion so far is that the mount must be able to encompass other mount flange distances. It must be able to fit full frame and potentially Medium format. Electrical contacts must have fittings for metadata and also remote driving of lenses along with auto focus capability. And it must have enough space behind to allow for things like ND, OLPF, Auto focus, and any other exotic things people can think up lol. One of the big topics that was discussed throughout is the need for user input instead of just manufacture input. They seem to really want to build this to benefit the users and not to just unify and appease the manufactures.
I would love to hear the communities thoughts on the discussion and even if it should be a thing to consider right now.
