Ups, installed the new RED Final Cut package this morning. Now Final Cut crashes on launch.

Crash report says thread #17 crashed.

Already have the new ProAppKit installed.

What should I uninstall to get back to a working FCS?

All the best,
Jochen

Preferences File

Preferences File

Did you try to trash your preferences file?
Go to user>library>preferences>final cut pro user data
Put the pref file in the trash and relaunch FCP.

I would also fix disk permissions in disk utility after a big install as FCP3.

Thank you, Snow.

Just this morning I was able to launch FC without problems.
It seems that a cold reboot fixed whatever it was. (Several restarts yesterday had no effect.)

I´m wondering if I should still trash the prefs.

All the best,
Jochen

Hi Jochen,
I'm starting a Red project in a couple of weeks and am wondering if I should upgrade now or wait, at least until after the shoot (we won't edit until after the shoot). During the shoot it will be straight L&T to Pro Res HQ, since we later conform using MM and then render out DPX for film out and Pro Res HQ or 4x4 for HDCAM SR Master.

We do have a fair amount of green screen scenes though and I am intrigued by Pro Res 4x4 for them.

Please keep us posted with your experiences with FCS3 and Red footage. I have 3 weeks until the shoot, so that leaves me 2 1/2 weeks to make up my mind.

Trashing and backing up prefs

Trashing and backing up prefs

Hi Jochen,

If FCP launches, but you still did not update your preferences, i would start fresh and dump the old pref file.
Otherwise, leave it there, since the system is working. Did you 'fix permissions' ?

After setting your new prefs, saving layouts etc., i would backup the entire 'Final Cut Pro User Data' folder in user>library>preferences.
You will be able to copy back your settings, if FCP acts up again.
Please post any performances data or system issues you have with the new FCS.
