I'm beyond frustrated trying to find the answer to this. Can you guys help? Here is the workflow that I want to use. Please tell me if it's possible and if so then walk me through it.

I want to work with proxy files in FCPX to edit everything first. I'm on a 15" MBP so that's why.
After I'm happy with the edit I want to grade it. I'm not interested in grading a bunch of footage I don't end up using.

Can I edit the R3Ds (proxy) in FCPX, then save an XML of the project to bring into Red Cine-X? Grade just the clips that I've used in my edit and then send the graded clips back to FCPX for some final touches and export? If I need to skip the proxy part I will. I know I can't adjust the R3Ds in FCPX if they are proxies.

If so, can someone walk me through it?
If not, can you give be a better route to take or point me to some RedUser pages that address this?

Thanks in advance, Adam

You will want to grade it in Resolve/Speedgrade/?.

RCXPro is first light from my experience.
Use it to get a base look and then bring into FCPX.
You can also access the base RAW tools in FCPX.
There you want to do your edits then export XML to Resolve for grading (my workflow).
I believe Resolve Lite is free and will work with 4K R3Ds now.
Have to check if thats true.

Resolve Lite supports resolutions up to UHD

Thanks guys or the info and the responses.

Well I don't know what I've done but when I try to set up a new library and project I get the "Missing Proxy" icon over all my R3Ds when I import them. I've tried deleting the other "test" libraries in which I experimented with generating proxy files of my R3Ds. But in the File Info tab in the Inspector Window, above the button that reads "Modify RED RAW Settings" I press "Generate Proxy", it generates one and I can see the footage. But when I try to click the "Modify RED RAW Settings" button again to get rid of the proxy file and start using the R3D all I get is the "Missing Proxy" icon.

Does any of that make sense?

Also when I imported the R3Ds I have "Files: Leave In Place" selected in my preferences so it doesn't make copies of the R3Ds

**UPDATE**

I figured out why that was happening. I forgot to switch my viewer playback to "Optimized/Original"

I have a proxie laptop workflow that works a treat.
Grading in FCP is easier and more powerful than you may think. (If you don't want to use resolve or speed grade)
I call it my hotel room workflow.

Best we skype.
Pm me.

Mark your the man :)

I think RedCine-X Pro was never intended as a finishing or conforming tool. I think it's free software intended to let you quickly view material and create dailies. You need an actual finishing program like daVinci Resolve for real conforming and final color.

Swapping out the proxies with R3Ds is trivial for any editing program. It's the color correction, sound, and VFX that are challenging.
