  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FCPX Update

What's the holdup with .R3D support?

Maybe they don't wan't to include a codec that can't be supported in real time for most users so they force transcodes?

Strange.

Seems like FCPX is going to be a zombie on my computer. If what is rumored in Pro Apps comes true at NAB . . . it won't die!

I love hate it. Sooo many beta gotchas. Yet it is now my primary editor. This thing is bloody powerful. The keyer is damn good. This alone is perhaps the biggest reason I use X. I spend far less time waiting for keylight footage beieng rendered out of After Effects.

Hmm Avid wants you to transcode most of the time, seems to work well :)

i read here that a bunch of pros pull their R3D's through RCX with a light grade and immediately transcode into ProRes to do all other work. If FCPX gets their ProMojo back . . . gotta say, I was a big fan of FCP7 and still haven't bonded completely with PP.

FCPX: she's a bitch to me . . . but those legs

Premiere's new keyer is also nice/fast (but no reason to change if you're happy with what you've got).

well, when you DO end up making the switch to Premier and AE....or go back to it like many....you'll forget all about FCP....i'm off that drug now for 6months and SO happy now with it....Premier has really done a lot of work for us in the raw world and so easy to work on a multi codec project w/out all the transcoding and timeline renders....seems like an old nightmare now...

NEW TOWERS and R3D Support... Then I'll do it!

Till then.. Apple is sliding the hill for me. I can't hold her up any longer.

It's like a moment from CLIFF hanger... were sly drops the chick.

New Towers is the clincher for me too. I am starting to believe the rumours that they are very near. And I like the unofficial support of the many more graphics cards that happened in Lion... Just edited my first project in X and I have mixed emotions. On the one hand, man it is powerful. On the other hand, it starts to get messy with roundtripping once you start sending stuff out too ( don't Laugh, still works great) Shake. I like where its going. Just wish it was there already.

All I can say about Final Cut Pro is the scene from Godfather 2 where Michael grabs his brother and says, "You broke my heart..." I loved that NLE.

I don't mind Premiere's learning curve, I play with AE and use photoshop a lot and would eventually switch if I have to! I went from Avid to FCP in no time when avid was lagging behind in adapting to new cameras... Its going back to Windows that I am dreading for if Apple doesn't get its Pro line upgraded... Shiiiiii!*(Clay Davis of The Wire)

Is there a petition going on that front? Am sure if every red owner would sign it, apple would listen, or should we flash mob "support R3D" at their next unveil?

I like the ability of PP to edit R3Ds natively. But for any further power hungry work such as compositing / finishing in other boxes it makes indeed a lot of sense to leave the RAW workflow and go the RGB route. Transcoding does make a lot of sense. I transcode all my stuff to ProRes (Smoke loves ProRes) or to DPX when best fidelity is needed.

Make the switch now. You will only regret having waited so long to do so. I'm finding PP a much more capable editing experience.

Cs6 looks fantastic. Open Gl woo hooo.
Im so going to dig deep at NAB adobe box... I'll keep you posted.
If I can work natively in my r3ds in my laptop with little to know rendering to view. Even with effects. Then I'm sold. !!!
Subce I'm already a AE and PS fan. It seems to be a logical step. My Expectations are so high. I'm so hoping they Dazzel me.

Shake for the Win!
