I've searched and found a ton of different ways but I was wondering the following on my process:

1. First Cut in FCPx with Sync'd Audio
2. Export XML
3. Import XML in Resolve
4. Color Grade

Now do I just go to the Delivery Tab and Choose FCPX roundtrip then render that XML and import again into FCPx or....?

When I do it this way for some reason the audio isn't making the trip even though I have the box checked for audio in resolve before render.

Any help thank you!

The round trip will create an XML, no need to export one separately.

You know to break apart the synched clips before you export the XML from FCPX, right?

I guess I'm confused now. Once I get my edit the way I want it (minus color grade) in FCPx I go up to File -Export- XML, correct? Then I import XML into Resolve. How do I do a roundtrip from here?

And no I don't know how to break them apart or maybe just not sure what you mean?

As you stated there are many ways to skin this cat and so there are many ways you can screw the pooch. The description you give of your workflow consists of some very broad strokes. It is difficult to state specifically how you should proceed without the fine details.

Are you cutting r3d's or other? If the latter, how did you generate and name the files? Did you synch manually? Did you nest the synched audio with the video? Are you conforming back to the r3d's? Etc.

I'm bringing native .r3d into Red Cine X, changing to Red Log Film. Saving RMD then opening FCPx and importing those files and editing accordingly. so far I haven't been using anything but music audio.

So you are not synching those r3d's each to an audio track or two. That simplifies things. Scratch the 'break them apart' remark. It doesn't appear to pertain to you.

Getting back to your first question then; in the Delivery tab when you choose the FCPX Round trip preset, Resolve will by default render individual clips as well as an XML file in the directory you chose. Import that XML back into FCPX and you can proceed from there. You will have a new event complete with a new project that will bear the same name as the master project with (Resolve) added.

If the audio is not making the trip it could just be that you neglected somehow to add the necessary audio files to the Media Pool before you imported the XML into Resolve.

Whatever the reason you should be able to work around it easily enough. Either copy the audio from the FCPX project you used for the export and paste it into the new Resolve copy of the project, or do the opposite. Copy the new Resolve video clips and paste them into a copy of your FCPX project with the audio.

here is what I would do.

Put a 2-pop at the start of your final sequence.

Send the XML to resolve
render the files using FCPx prest in resolve

import the resolve XML into FCPx

open the original XML you sent
select all the audio and create a storyline or a compound clip
use command copy to copy the clip
open the resolve sequence

paste only the audio into that sequence.

Just make a note note of the TC in time or line up the 2pop audio
