Hey guys,


The first part of my FCPX-RED feature film workflow is up now on the Moviemaker Magazine site… the idea behind these is to give you a detailed crib sheet of how to get a feature film done in FCPX. I use it on my projects, it works, and I don't miss FCP7 at all. The hope here is that it may help some of you guys out there get more comfortable giving X a shot on a larger project. Part 01 is all about project prep and building a good infrastructure around your RED footage (although it won't just work with RED films). Hi Sam,

your tutorials on FCPX and RED material were some of the best I've seen. Thanks for making these articles, and (hopefully) lending some credibility to the great concepts in FCPX and the software in itself.
I can't wait to read the next entries.

Question: you talk about the batch renaming. Won't this give problems when doing offline-online edit with Davinci Resolve? In a workflow where you don't copy things into the Events Folder, won't this still give problems relinking material?

Hey Mathieu,

Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate it. Far as batch renaming, it shouldn't have any effect on this workflow at all, as it won't be renaming the original clips, just the names that show up in the event browser, so if you send a XML to resolve, for instance, it'll be fine, as it'll still be referencing the original clip names. Also, you can always just use the media pool if you're doing offline dailies not created in FCPX (although I think this workflow is much slower/less efficient than using proxy mode in X). Batch renaming is just a much faster and easier way to rename your clips as you work with them within FCPX. That answer your question at all?
