FCPX Event Browser Folder Structure, anyway around 1-clip-per-folder nonsense?

Fairly new to FCPX here, editing from a plethora of different formats and the event browser is giving me a headache.
All the other formats sit nicely there, with multiple clips per folder, except for RED footage that contains individual folders for each clip.

Is there a way to have a REEL event folder containing all clips without being wrapped in yet another folder?

It maybe be super simple to organize RED clips better this but Google search didn't return anything. (help)

Cheers!

Could you post a screen shot? I don't seem to have the same problem.

Thanks.

If correct, the listing is by date. If you really wanted to, you could change the name/date (within fcpx) and thus they would all fall under one spot (under the one date) in the list.

FYI - The listing is not putting them in separate folders...it merely looks that way based on how it's organized (based on the date stamp of the footage). Hope this helps.

Did you leave the box checked that says "Import Folders as Keyword Collections"?

Or, it could be the date thing.

In any case, it doesn't have to be that way.

I strongly suggest looking at some FCP-X tutorials if you want to save yourself some frustration. Start with Sam Mestman. Also, Ripple Training is quick, good and relatively cheap.

I've never had that happen.

Mine look like this:

Native .R3D all imported into one event folder - not transcodes.

Import settings look like this:
import.jpg

Does that help?

Thanks Glen. I just replicated the same import settings and still getting the folder-per-clip mess.

Thanks for the suggestion Will and Terry, I wish I had time to sit through the tutorials. Perhaps this is the wrong time to be learning FCPX. ;)

Wish I could sit with you for 10 minutes or so - It's really easy to get it setup… you just need to forget almost everything you've ever learned.

Are you selecting the .RDM folder (as you should), or are you selecting the individual .RDC folders inside?

Can you post a screen shot with the full file / drive architecture on the left side of your screen?

Got it - Drop down menu: View --> Event Browser --> Group Clips by --> 'None' or 'Content Created' or any other choice that suits. Looks like you've chosen 'Reel'

Hope that helps.

That worked, thanks Glen. I knew that it was something dumb. I thought I would want it organized by reel but I guess not. "FCPX - forget everything you think you know". ;)

Cheers!
