Hello - I know that you can do the 4K export from FCPX directly to youtube, which for my project creates a 645MB file (I'm assuming it's H264 and low Mbps).

Is there any benefit to doing this over exporting a 4K file then uploading it to youtube? Is there a huge leap in quality from one over the other?

My advice is to do test. I know personally fcpx does a pretty good job automating the process , compressing the footage and optimizing it for best delivery YouTube / Vimeo . If you are savvy with bit rates etc .... You could always create a custom export (using compressor), and save it to fcpx for all future projects

Exporting to directly Youtube just uses the same compression settings (like you said H264 and low Mbps) that Youtube would use to compress a larger file, so the benefit is you'll save yourself some time on the upload, as opposed to uploading a massive file and then waiting for Youtube to re encode it as a H264 internally.
