Can FCP 7/Color 1.5 work flow handle greater than 10-bit color depth? While everyone seems worked up about 4k full debayered images, I always thought the worst issue was the 10-bit limit in Color.

Pro Res HQ for example is 10 bit. If you color from the Raw files you should be able to go higher in Color.
I have had a feature done that way even before the new package came out and the improvement especially in the shadows is amazing. You have 4 times the color information then if you go and color your pro res files.

12 bit possible?

12 bit possible?

According to the white paper put out by Apple, on page 4, the ProRes 4444 (4x4) codec is 12 bit, and it is supposed to be ideal for grading. Since the R3D's are 12 bit, theoretically, if you were to encode them over to ProRes 4x4, or use the direct R3D, I would think that you would be able to stay in 12 bits.

But this is only a guess- I do not have Color 1.5, so I cannot search the documentation to see if there is any clarification on that matter.

Here is the white paper:

Is the new Color really using the build 20 color science? My computer is packed up at the moment and so I havent yet installed in tested - But whether or not Color supports the new color science will determine wether or not I update to the new camera build...

I know that it says that it "supports cameras up to build 20", but what does that really mean?
