Hi!
I have a few FCP X and RR questions. Thank you in advance for you help!
We run a 3 computer FCP X network over 10GBE using the Studio Network Solutions X-Target and Global SAN software. Each film project is a partition from a Lacie 20TB Thunderbolt cube. We are also using a mac mini server. We currently do not use a Red Rocket. A typical project workflow would be as follows.
Import 3K or 4K R3D (copy to films event)
Create Proxies
Edit
Export using HQ from FCP X
This works great if you are doing the main editing with only proxies. But when you start building in motion graphics generatorS (built from Motion) the text and graphics look low resolution. We then select Edit Optimized which makes everything look better but we have to wait for rendering each time a change is made. It also takes about 20-30 minutes to export a 3 minute film in HQ from FCP X.
My question is if we used a RR card or RCX card would this whole work flow process be sped up? If so, roughly by how much? Are we better off using the funds for 1-2 new Mac Pro work stations instead? If we did use a RR card we would attach that to a Sonnet Tech Thunderbolt 20GBS PCI Chassis when it becomes available.
Thank you for your help and advice!
