Hello all!

I am using RED with FCP for the first time so I apologize if my questions seem novice but I am extremely new to using RED and its post workflow.

I am cutting a music video that was shot at 4k. I transcoded the footage to the Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) using FCP to edit the video. We are nearing the end of the process and are going to need to color correct and online for the final cut of the video. That is where I need help. I have REDCine, RedAlert, RedRushes, and Color...I just don't know how to use them to do what I am trying to do. What is my next step? Do I create an EDL or XML? After I do that, where do I send the file?

Ultimately this video will need to be burned to a DVD and exported for viewing on the web.

Also, I am using Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 (should be upgrading to 7 soon). Any and all help is welcome. Thank you!

Probably easiest best to use the 'Send to Color*' to move your sequence into Color, and there you can re-link to your RED files. You can edit colour space, iso settings and so on once you've re-linked back to the original files, so you don't need to use REDCINE or anything.

I encourage you to take a look at the RED FCP workflow document that is included with the Final Cut Studio plugin. It explains a few common workflows in detail.

* I really hate having to misspell Colour like this... Anybody else get that?

Thanks Stephen! That was a great help and reading the doc included with the plugin also went a long way!

Yup.

As an aside, the newest version of Final Cut Studio, which ships FCP7.0 and Color 1.5 (arggh) features much better 'round-trip' integration, so that speedchanges/transitions/etc. will make it over to Color (soddit) and back. I recommend this upgrade to any RED editors.

Hey Guys,

Not meaning to be picky, particularly, but you are not mis-spelling 'colour' you are merely describing the product 'Color' which is the name given to the program you are using. But I do get your point. My editor tends to put on a robot voice and pronounce it 'koh-law', which was quite funny, at first.
